bsd battery connector

Whats up guys I just bought a 2007 335i sedan and upon having a shop switch out my battery I noticed that the bsd (little blue cable from the negative terminal) was broken into two pieces. The reason for replacing the battery was because of a very slow ignition start in the morning and the battery was around 6 years old... The problem still occurs but not as bad, could this broken wire be the cause of my problem. If so would it be a problem to just use two butt connectors to redo it since the old casing is beyond repair?
