F30 335dx M Sport (MG + CR)

After 5 years of ownership, I said goodbye to my beloved F10 this weekend and picked up a new car.

Bye: 2012 F10 520d M Sport (I miss the 434m Alloys more then the car!)

Hi: 2016 F30 335dx M Sport

I had mixed feelings going from a 5 to a 3... the 2.0 litre engine served me well over the 5 years getting to 96000 miles. Never let me down and never had any major issues with it. I always had the desire to own a 6 pot BMW and finally took the plunge.

Initially looked at the 4GC but then set my mind on the 3 series saloon. I narrowed down the search to be Black Sapphire or Mineral Grey, but red leather was a must! Finally saw this one at Sycamore BMW, Peterborough (Massive thanks to Mike over there - legend!)

I asked for the m performance kit to be fitted (minus the wheels) and they gave me a good discount on it too.

It's not got all the options but a very good spec in my opinion.

Spec highlights:
  • HK Sound & DAB
  • HUD
  • High Bean Assist
  • M Sport Plus Package
  • Media Package - Prof Plus
  • Reverse Camera
  • Speed Limit Display
  • Sun Protection Glass
  • M Performance Kit

First impressions - Not drove the car much but took it for a long drive and motorway blast earlier... I'm still smiling now! What a car! What an engine! I absolutely LOVE IT!!! Still finding my around the new iDrive etc but looking forward to it all. I normally de-badge all my car but I'm not sure whether to do it on this one!?

I'm already planning what mods to do and what things to purchase. Here's a list/wish list:
  • Black chrome exhaust tips
  • ACS Springs
  • 20" Wheels (BMW 405m or BBS CI-R)
  • 335i/340i style exhaust conversion
  • Security device (Tracker or a Ghost Immobiliser)
  • Purchase a boot liner!

Took some pics earlier today while the light was fading (sorry - not the best
pics I've taken)

Really nice looking 3 mate, big fan of the coral red interior (I have it in my 4). Only thing I found is that dye from jeans, chinos etc can mark it so I advise getting some leather cleaner of some sort. I keep on top of mine when I clean the car and still comes up as new.

What was the damage on the m performance kit?

Thank you!

Cheers for the advice on the leather care.

It was £1575 inc fitting.

Looks nice! Normally im not a fan of the side skirt vinyls but I feel like they work on MG, just enough contrast there without standing out too much. Also a fan of the coral red!

Very tempted, assuming our current one meets all expectations, to order a new one late next year, and will be going for that colour combo I think!

Like the sporty bits too, but would skip the side decals.

You weren't tempted by a 535d?
I ask because most people that choose the 3 do so for physical car size reasons. The 5 definitely rides better to cover those 96k miles you did, and since the size of the 5 was something you were used to...

I'm interested in your thoughts after you've settled in to it. Will you miss more than the wheels?

I'm tempted to go the other way. Not to a 4 pot, but the 5 series for the comfort it provides.

New car looks great

Seen a lot of mixed views about the decals on the forum... a bit like marmite you could say!

Honestly, I thought long and hard about it my next car... Not a fan of the G30 yet so didn’t go down that road. I looked at a few F10 535d’s but didn’t want to drive the same car again for the next few years. I know the 535 will be much different from a 520 but it’s still the same body and car in a way. I looked into getting a 4GC but my dad struggled with getting in and out of the back and the leg room was tight so I ruled that out too.

Even now that I have a 3, I still say that the 5 is a better car. Always will be. Hands down. However the 3 is a fantastic car and it brings a smile on my face every time I drive it as it has that fun element to it – one important factor for me.

Will I miss more than the wheels – Took early to say I guess. I do miss the car as I spent a lot of time in it. It was the longest I’ve owned a car. Purely to the fact it was a great car. We used my car as the main family car (hence all that mileage) but my dad recently got himself an E350 so dropping to a 3 didn’t bother me as much when talking about size. Once this one gets close to 100k, I’ll change it to something bigger again perhaps.

I’ll post something again soon once I’m over the honeymoon period. First thoughts though, there’s more road noise in the cabin compared to the 5! I get that they can’t make the 3 better than the 5.

Sorry I know I’ve rambled on a little.

Thanks

On road noise, the oem rft are noisy.

F1 Goodyear RFT are better by 3db apparently, so the 3er could be much quieter with a better tyre choice.

Thank you, I will bare that in mind when getting new tyres.

How about non-rft? Are they more quieter than rft?
