How many of you guys leased your car with the original intention to modify it? I was discussing this with someone and they had an interesting take on the difference between buying the car and leasing it with a severe mods.

My E46 was leased... i wound up purchasing but it was a lease none the less!! It was built as a show car for our Custom Car audio business (We've since gone out of business unfortunately)

My question to follow up is this: Does the dealership treat you any different when you come into bring your car in at the end of a lease and you have a red flag up or they notice mods have been installed? Does anyone have any experience with this? I would assume that leasing would be much worse. Basically, you are agreeing to borrow their car for a set number of months and you also agree to not change the car in any major way over that time. Wheels and tires are not a major concern but they would be a waste of money if you have to return the car a later date. This might explain the high number of people who complain about the "HIGH" cost of the Dinan upgrades. If you are leasing the car than you are looking at saving a buck here and there and getting into the car as cheap as possible. I am surprised this many owners lease their cars with intention to modify them I guess.

Mines a lease and I either plan on purchasing it at the end of the lease or parting it out before I return it......right now it looks like I'm gonna end up purchasing it though

Off topic but.... Craig..... I dont understand how the hell you guys went out of buisness. I saw firsthand the quality/time/detail that went into those custom jobs and you really arent going to get better then that. Its a damn shame because you and your brother are gifted when it comes to that stuff. You guys should give it another shot, maybe a better location more public oriented rather then the hidden shop you guys had. Id love for SE to come back into th game!

Thanx for the kind words bro...Ron and Dave were the talented parties I was just there helping where and when I could and didn't hurt that I had the car to put us out there. We simply overextended ourselves with a store front and a large shop to do the work in a few years after you were around bro. Times got tough, big bills, lots of debt but thats the chance you take with a small business unfortunately. Ron's still in the business and doing well up in Morristown, NJ if you decide you need some work done on the E93!!

im leasing as well. i dont plan on buying my car. i wanna turn it in after 3 yrs. but i respect the car. i dont plan on putting Dps, FMICs or an exhaust. all i want is a nice safe tune thats why im waiting to compare the shark injector and the SSTT (maybe stage 2) by mid july and choose between one of them and thats it tune wise. other than that maybe some stuff like angel eyes, carbon fibre parts for looks. sell it all at the end of the lease and play with something new
