Someone was saying it is a re-skinned Jaguar F-Pace. It does look nice, and still has that signature Land Rover look. From what I can tell it's quite a bit more expensive than the X40i, looks like you have to start at $64k base to get the V6 supercharged engine. Even then it's about a second slower to 60. Probably just a little too luxury-oriented for me, I like the balance the X40i strikes between performance and luxury.

We looked at it. It really is stunning in person. You can get it reasonably equipped with all the latest safety tech around the low 60s, so it's not too far out there.

However, I just can't get over the fact that Jaguar Land Rover's InControl Touch Pro lacks voice recognition for things other than phone use. You can't search for POIs while driving, you can't input an address without having to stop your vehicle, etc.

As others have said yes its a looker. But that's really where the advantages end. IDrive has it all over the system in the Velar. Biggest killer is its pricing here in Australia. The Velar is 10-15% more expensive than a similarly equipped and engined X3. And man, its rather porky - which impacts both on performance and (I suspect) handling.

Also much smaller feeling inside as well. Cross shopped it and ended up with the M40

Friends don't let friends buy a Land Rover.

Especially a first year Land Rover.
