nice kill but i doubt that it was a modded EVO MR or the new IX, it must have been an old evo with just a loud exhaust and BOV. The EVO MR stock is fast! with you having four passengers and him being by himself, i dont really know wat to say...must have been a mitsubishi lancer Rally Edition lool

An MR is no faster than a regular Evo. The fastest one is the RS.

I watched an Evo run at Fontana last year. It couldn't do better than 13.5 in the qtr mile. Some people said it wasn't stock. A stock STI couldn't get out of the 14's. The track is that bad, (almost 90F, 1100Ft Alt, and uphill). I ran 13.0x with the JB2.

Ive raced two Evos, both 12 second quarter mile runners. One was a MR, other a regular old 8. Walked both, not by much but about two car lengths. Both couldnt believe it. Raced a 12 second STI too, walked him too.

It is so fun! You know when I was at Famosa in Feb, there was they gray Evo with meth injection, etc. He said he won the battle of the imports there recently. I know it is a 11 second car, but that day, I don't think he ran below a 12.06. I think I ran a 12.2x that day. A few weeks later I installed the H pill (JB2HR), and came back and ran a 12.13. So the Evo was heavily modified, and we were still only a couple tenths apart. Besides tune/DR/fuel, my car was otherwise stock down to the air filter. So it is not surprising you can give most Evos a good run, if not beat them. The Evo did have good HP obviously. His trap was 116.97 when he ran the 12.06. But again, I think it was pretty heavily modded with the meth injection, etc, etc. Maybe someone on board knows the quickest ET that car is capable of?

An Evo 9 on meth with basic bolt-ons should be a 120 mph trapping car if its running right. May not be a huge ET difference vs an auto tuned 335 with DRs, but it would eat you alive from a roll to ~130 mph or so.

I used to own a STI too. It was a fast car, but I dont think the power band is as meaty in the middle of the powerband like the 335, exactly where you want it when you want to race.

Very simple bolt ons (TBE, MBC, filter, tune) you are at 330-340whp (115mph trap). If its not tuned, you can certainly beat it with lightly modded 335i. Quote:
For VIII- TBE, MBC, filter, tune, cams For IX - TBE, MBC, filter, tune Meth injection doesn't make it highly modded. Acutally I don't really like meth injection as you can't guarantee each cylinder gets exactly same amount of meth as you would with fuel injectors. Quote:
I've tested gearing in my friend's 335i yesterday and here's the rough comparison between 335i and evo IX MR gearing. 335i 2nd gear upto ~70mph 3rd gear upto ~100mph 4th gear upto ~130mph 5th gear upto ~?? havent' tested, would've been tooooo fast 6th gear upto ~?? havent' tested, probably would've made no difference than 5th Evo IX MR 2nd gear upto ~60mph 3rd gear upto ~90mph 4th gear upto ~120mph 5th gear upto ~145mph 6th gear upto ~?? never tested I haven't logged this or anything but this is my rough impression of the gear ratios.

I had two Evo,s before my 07 335i coupe. Both were modded.Without getting into it a stock 335 against a stock IX would be a drivers race.I have driven a new Evo X and the 335 would definetely beat it in a 0-60 and 1/4 mile race.A modded Evo is a different story.BTW bdKevoIX you left out the fuel pump in the Evo modding upgrades. LOL

I have a lot of respect for Evo's and I think the discussion in here is pretty interesting. The one thing I havent seen mentioned is that the Evo weighs about 300 pounds less than our cars. Just comparing whp based on mods doesn't tell the whole story.
I was with my friend when he raced his 6spd 335 w/SSTT vs. another friend who has an Evo VIII with TBE and mbc (who runs 13.0-13.1 1/4 mile times) and it was almost dead even in the roll races. The result after several tries was that the Evo pulled a 1/2 car length early on and then the 335 started to even up and pull a 1/2 car length ahead at higher speeds (+110 mph). Racing from a dead stop wouldn't be pretty since the Evo would easily pull 1 1/2 car lengths off the line. |

Hey BOOSTED335 and other BMW owners. Just wanted to let you BOOSTED335 and all the others here that I am the one that got raced on the 10 freeway next to the Lincoln exit the other day. Just to clear things up. I am currently running TBE / MBC / Intake / Fuel Pump / With no Tune. Tune was in the works but decided to save the cash and buy the 135i.
I'm sorry but i have to call Bull Shit on your kill story. We ran from 55mph or so and i honked three times. He jumped me before the third beep and he ended up about a bumper ahead of me. Be it that my car is running with an upgraded fuel pump and the car already runs pig rich from factory pretty sure I wouldve taken him if the race was started at the same time and without the Pump. Not hating on Bimmers at all and I'm not biased. I'm currently awaiting delivery on my 135i in two days. Just pretty sure he did not want to lose in front of the girl he had next to him, hence the jump. Thanks |

Are we talking about the brand new 291HP Evo? I thought the new Evo was already understood to be slower than the 335i, especially on a roll-on. I lined up next to a white one yesterday, he wouldn't bite though.

Raced a modded (saw an aftermarket exhaust) STI from a dig to 110 mph.
I put 3+ CL's on him with v2 only. Stock EVO's/STI's trap only in the 101-103 mph range It takes like 20 psi boost for EVO/STI to trap 108+ mph And around 22-24 psi boost with intake, DP, exhaust to trap in the 112 mph range. Your "average" mildly tuned (basic chip, intake, exhaust) EVO/STI seems to trap in the 108 mph range. Right where a SSTT 335i runs. If you beat that EVO by 2 CL's and you had 4 people in your car and he only had 1, he probably wasn't tuned at all. |
