DISA Valve test n52

My car is a mess with a low idle issue (extreme rattle and rough operation), misfire codes, and MAF issues.

I have a MAF on the way, but want to test the DISA units. I see e46 test methods on the net, but not N52, which do not have unit vac controlled opteration. Is there anyway to bench test?

Should they be open (+) or closed (-) with engine off? At Idle?

I see on the net someone has the units plugged in with the car running. They must have a 2nd car, as starting the car with send the rpms soaring instantly. I can't think of a safe way to cover the main DISA hole to test.

Well i just tried to test the big outer valve by powering on the car, then a quick start. Closed OK (+) to (-) at idle. Now just need to figure out if I can test the inner unit without removing the whole shebang. I have a endoscope coming tonight, will try to leave it installed.

I thought INPA had a text routine for the disa valve?

The Carly android app can display the state of open/closed on the two valves in the parameter monitoring section.

But you need to run the motor to activate them. INPA should be able to activate the Disa valves with just the ignition turned on.

While INPA/ISTA can activate the stepper motor, that is not an indicator of the valve's condition. That only verifies that the motor is working.

The flap often comes loose from the stepper motor shaft and just spins freely. So the stepper motor will respond, but it won't really actuate the flap.

You'll need to get in there with a scope to verify it's opening and closing/how much if any play is in the flap.

Tried using a cheap borescope. Borescope quality was too s***ty to use.

What's the best method to test DISA valves on a manifold that hasn't been installed yet? Remove the valves, connect them to the car and run the INPA test?

I tested mine this way when upgrading to the 3IM: I removed them from the manifold I let them sit connected on the engine bay, reving the engine from the driver seat. The small one should open at approx. 3000 rpm and the bigger one at 4300rpm. Engine off, they should be both opened and they should close upon start-up/idle. I was alone so I placed my iphone to record their behavior since the opened hood is blocking the view. Good luck

In addition to checking the motor, check the flap for play on the shaft. It should be stiff and not wiggle. Any wiggle means the flap base has started to wear and will eventually strip.

THanks for the help. Still haven't gotten INPA tests yet. I've buttoned the car back up minus a few bolts and clips and she's running better (I really need to make a car to-do list)

Getting a code only at low idle 2D06 with 8kg/h of air measured at 750rpm. Seems low (? 13kg/h~ish right? ) which would indicate an intake leak(???) post MAF?
I had the same code pre-MAF change. Running new paper filter.
