X6 MPG

In case anyone is wondering, I drove my X6 from San Diego to Malibu today for a car meet. Through all the hills and such with the roundtrip ride, I averaged 21.5 MPG. I only have 800 miles on the odometer. When the engine is fully broken in I hope it will be even better MPG. At 21.5 MPG, I can go about 480 miles on a tank.

Not bad for a 5,000 lb truck.

Chuck,

Now at 1500 miles, here's what I get.

Daily commute 14-15mpg.

Turnpike run and recent 2hour trip averaging 60 miles/hour, with highway speeds cruising with a truck at 80-90 miles/hour = 20mpg.

I sure wish it was better, especially in this economy, but IT IS WHAT IT IS.

I do LOVE my machine and I am sure you do too. I just saw a white one as I passed a local dealer...NICE! Get the clearbra and tint done!

Then, we'll figure out what's next

I am not sure I need to tint. I got the rear climate package which includes rear climate control, rear door sun shades, and darker tinted glass on the rear doors and hatch. I could tint the front doors, but nah, it is fine as is I think.

Also, I read at 65MPH, most cars are optimized for fuel economy. If you go 80MPH, the economy can drop on most cars 3-5MPG. I drove from San Diego to Malibu roundtrip at about 70MPH. I am not sure what the optimal speed is for the X6 to achieve the best fuel economy.

well it is plug and play and I don't know how they will be able to prove that I had something on my car ...

335 had problems with fuel pumps and they had to take those cars back ... but on the other hand they could blame you that you didn't use the premium fuel and that's the reason why it failed.

most of those people who got their warranty cancelled were not smart enought and brought their cars with all the mods on them ... no wonder it was cancelled ...

The new iDrive software (PROGMAN) send turbo boost information to two locations. So when the car goes in for service they can tell if the car was modified even if you remove the product before going in. I have no proof of this other then people posting this on various web sites. I do know it is easy to modify iDrive to record the highest amount of boost ever used in a register for retrieval later.

The reason why Dinan is charging $2k for their chip is that they have to assume all engine warranty work. The chip is worth about $200.

I know what you are talking about ... I can swap to Dinan any day ... they don't have anything available for msd81 yet ...

I have about 700 miles on mine. I'm averaging 16.1 mpg in mostly city driving. Wish it were better, but it is what it is.

17.5MPG over first 500 miles - mixed driving between Interstate commuting and around town. Not great but probably not helped by my heavy right foot and large grin every time I go out........
