I8 to M550?

My I8 is 3 years old with 7800 miles and I am thinking about trading it in for a M550i.

If anyone has done the same switch please let me know your thoughts and feelings about the change.

I love the i8 but it has a lot of problems and is impractical to use so I have been using my Tacoma most of the time.

I am single and don't need the space but to be able to go to costco would be nice.

I like the M550i because it is a new model with seems to be high performance.

Thanks for any input you guys may have.

I came from i8 to G30 530i XDrive .I'm very satisfied with my car and no regrets to quit quite ownership of the i8
I think M550i's performance will blow you up .In my car, bear in mind it's just 2.0 liter 4 cylinder ,when RPM is below 1500 and I want an instant acceleration this is where the car struggles but once it hits above 1750 RPM the car is very quick . To cure this lag I pull the joystick lever to the left to engage in Sports Mode . As soon as I do this , the car increases in RPM and the acceleration is sublime
I think you wouldn't even need to do this procedure above even when cruising at low RPMs
i8 is only good at attracting hot chicks to the G30 5 Series

That's a substantial change from almost a 'super car' kind of a vehicle to a 5 series. What made you do it?

its been in the shop twice within the last 6 months for a fuel pressure sensor replacement both times and I only put about 600 miles on it in between. Its a common problem with them. another is the depreciation on the car is really bad.

My brother has a M4 already and the the new M550i is a nice new model with the latest tech and is faster and more practical then the i8. Im looking at getting a M550 with all the carbon fiber parts and Wheels to make it look different.

Although car felt solid I was not relying on it , only a few months in and a %^^$^^$$% (you know what I mean ) an airbag light embellished the gauge cluster with its presence all of sudden
I had read some windshield screen cracks too , however, that was not something I experienced in my car
Insufficiency of hybrid :
I could barely get 18 kilometers as opposed to 25 kilometers even with gentle driving modes , I must say I used Sport and Comfort (the latter got more usage than former )
Charging isn't as efficient as fueling in my experience as well .
Lack of space :
Fortunately , we got backseats to get the job done (don't get me wrong I'm talking about shopping stuff )
Depreciation was another factor for me to decide a switch
Last but not least (too much abused word but needs here )
Greatness of the G30

Nah, it's all good guys. I appreciate the responses. Just interesting to see the thought process behind such a move. I got rid of my M3 for a 440 and people couldn't get their head around as to why I would do that, so this kinda struck me as a sort of a similar deal. But at the end of the day you gotta do what you gotta do.

Interesting thread, really appreciate everyone's honest feedback. I've wanted the i8 since the first time I saw it, and was thinking about getting one after my G30 but the more I drive the G30 the more i appreciate the comfort and refinement and think I may hold onto the G30 longer than expected

Have a look at the C43 as well when you drive the Merc. It's a really good package for the money as well. I just came from the W205 platform and was dicing up getting the 43 or 63 over the G30.

Unless you're really keen on a V8 tire shredding machine, the C43 can be had with the same interior and extremely similar performance in the 0-60mph stakes. Of course at the top end of the performance curve the 63 will eat it. The 4 wheel drive in combination with the active exhaust on the 43 makes it a little fire cracker because it puts the power down better - plus it's lighter. A lot of fun to drive. You do miss out on that glorious V8 sound though.
