2011 328ix - N52 - Cylinder 6 Misfire

EDIT: The misfire code has been gone ever since I changed my plugs. However, I made a new post below outlining a weird vibration while moving and idle issues I am having.

I have recently been getting the dreaded cylinder 6 misfire codes on my 2011 328. It has about 58K miles on it and I have only owned for about 3000 of those miles. I plan on putting in the most recent NGK spark plugs but I am pessimistic that will be the fix. I also will swap the coil to another cylinder during the plug install.

However, if it turns out to not be the plugs or the coils, it has to be the injector, correct? With that being said, what is a cheap place to get a new injector? How will i know if its index 12?

Can I buy these if needed: https://www.ebay.com/itm/6x-OEM-Flow...9ZpjI4&vxp=mtr

I didn't think the 2011 cars were prone to this issue, but right now it seems very possible. I will continue to update as I begin the fixes.

It is very likely the coil, they are known to go out, and for about $23 each, its not a bad idea to change out along with new plugs. Have they been done before?

Most likely coils but oil pooling inside the plug well because of VCG leak will also cause misfires.

Wait, why is this dreaded? Pretty typical and cheap issue.

Changing an injector is not a fun task. Therefore, i dread it.

Fingers crossed its no that. I put in new plugs and it seems to be running much better. Plug 6 was toasted. I also have half delphi and half bosch coils in the car....

Get plugs and coils. Should be around $160 for Delphi coils and $56 for NGK plugs.

Are the N52 motors known for injector issues?

I used NKG plugs and Eldor coils, they work great. It's a fairly easy job.

These cars are not known for misfires, or injector issues. If your scanner confirms misfire, it's a coil. Throw some NGK plugs and a coil, problem solved. Coils are the first to go with age.

I installed 6 new plugs and 3 new Delphi coils. Upon installing the new coils, I realized the 3 dealer installed coils, which look like Delphi's, have different color tops (see picture below). They also did not have the Delphi named stamped on them like the ones I purchased. Is it possible my coils are still mix matched now?

I am sensing a small annoying vibration in the car. I cannot determine if it engine related or wheel/tire/suspension related. However, at idle my RPMs seem to jump a littl bit. When I come to a stop, the rpms will dip for a split second and you can feel the car shake. I have no idea whats going on. I am not getting any more engine lights. The car seems to accelerate fine but with a small shake in the steering wheel. Again I cant determine if its related to a bent wheel or the engine...I am going to discount tire soon to get my wheels checked out. However, this wouldn't explain my weird idle..

This.

I had this happen a year or so ago.
Trashed my 6th cylinder coil/plug. Had a little pool of oil in there. And of course my Eccentric Shaft Sensor got trashed too.

Wont take terribly long to get in there and inspect it for yourself.

Disregard last sentence... oops.

Edit 2: Did you check the plug for your Eccentric Shaft Sensor?
May have oil in there... I know that caused the timing to be retarded and my idle reflected it.
It was bad enough to make the car die if I didn't give it some gas at a dead stop.

I have not. It seems that is near the front of the engine?

I just had to swap my plugs & coils at 69k miles. No oil leaking from the VCG, thankfully. I figured while I was in there it wasnt worth saving a buck to figure out which parts were bad.

I picked up the kit from ECS tuning. Gas mileage was up 10-15% after the service.

Yes.
In reference to your pic, that plug on the top right hand corner..
Looks likes there is some residue around it. However, I got a bonafide code saying my sensor was bad.

replacing them all is your prerogative - but it's completely unnecessary. it's more likely that the rest will last another 100k miles than all of them fail at the same time.

Also, all six are like $400 with tax. I make a six figure salary but I'm not just going to throw away $400 for the fun of it..

I was able to buy 3 Delphi coils for $70 shipped.

Yep, I could get away cheaper but then I'm spending more time in the garage troubleshooting each time a coil fails, so that's the trade off. The plugs & coils kit was $250 from ECS.
