Half engine light on 335 auto with Dinan...

This is the second time I have gotten the half engine light in the last 4 days. Both times I was in DS mode. Today, the transmission would not shift into 6th after I put the car in D while on the highway. I had to shift it into sixth with the paddles. Does this sound like possible tranny problems, or does the car just shift funny when in limp mode? The transmission seems to be whining a little louder in the last couple months. I called the dealer and they are booked solid tomorrow. They can possibly look at the car on Friday. I will post an update when I know whats up. I guess I will see first hand how the whole BMW/Dinan warranty issues will be handled.

Sounds like transmission problems to me. I am not sure that transmission problems can cause a limp or not but one thing I do know is that it doesn't shift differently when your in limp mode (due to tuning).

i'd like to see a sticky on bmw/dinan warranty. perhaps you should ask your dinan guy to revert the flash back to stock before you put it in the shop. drive it for a week and make sure its not firmware related? that might be wise.

They'll take care of you.
The bill will go to Dinan now instead of BMW.
That's all.

What will this do?
No matter if they put it back to stock, it will always be on his record that he had the flash done.

I hope you are right Mr. 5, time will tell. I am a little concerned about the revised stage 2 flash and automatic transmission problem. Hopefully the dealer doesn't have to update the ECU at all. I am happy with the original stage 2 Dinan flash.

Don't worry, I just had my intake camshaft replaced for vanos problem and fuel pump as well. BMW paid this....zero problems.

Are you sure that BMW paid for it or did Dinan?
Your BMW warranty is now void so I don't know why BMW would pay for it.

Are you being sarcastic or serious? I mean it certainly seems silly if the dealer would give him a hard time about an aftermarket air filter; it's not like it's the entire air intake. The air filter is one mod I hadn't even thought of removing when going in for service.

I will. I reset the transmission last night. I want to see if this changes anything. The car seems to shift smoother now. I didn't see any point in bringing the car to the dealership on a Friday, they never finish anything in one day. I don't want to leave the car there all weekend. If it acts up again, I will drop it off on Monday.

In DS doesn't it stay in fifth? When I am on the highway and I trip it to DS it goes to 5th then I can step it to 6th.

Right, I put in "D" when I am on the highway, and it didn't shift to 6th gear like it normally does. I drove the car 90 miles today and no engine light. Not sure what is going on.

why don't you have your dinan guy un-flash the ecu and clear all codes; then repeat the issue to make sure its not a dinan "AT6" features lol.

i'm not kiddin'

with the dinan fakey flash it makes you wonder what they exactly flashed? maybe boost maps onto trans maps? who knows?

I have had the flash on my car for 10,000 miles and no problems whatsoever until now. Don't think it's the flash.

I think it's a good idea because the ITG filter doesn't meet the OEM standards for filtration. BMW could claim that the filter caused unwanted dirt to be allowed into the engine, therefore causing problems.

I know it sounds lame, but so does all the other crp that BMW's doing.

Strange days. Maybe its Karma getting you for having that at best E36 or at worst totally phoney "DINAN" decklid badge on the what some would argue is the wrong side of the trunk.

Maybe so, I just didn't think the real Dinan decklid badge was worth $10,000.
