Carly BMW App

Is anyone using the Carly BMW app? It can apparently code the battery when replaced - which would be very valued considering my battery replacement just cost me $300!

Only supposed caveat is their "proprietary" dongle (~$80 -- unclear if standard OBD adapter works?) plus the cost of the app plus the extra cost of the battery registration feature app unlock. But, probably still cheaper than a dealer.

I purchased the Schwaben scan tool from ECS for $199 to register my battery. The link below mentions all the features:

I haven't done the math, but Carly would seem cheaper than the ECS option.

I think the right option depends on skill level and how deep you plan to go with coding. I'm (arguably) quite technical, but I find Carly's ease of use far far outweighs any theoretical limitation on what it can do.

actually, I'm getting this one:

http://www.foxwelltool.com/wholesale...e-and-obd.html

the Schwaben one is this same unit, but its cheaper, and if bought direct from Foxwell has free lifetime updates and for $70 you can add other brands.

A little off topic, but do you know a lot about coding? I've always been interested, but don't really know what all can be changed on E82 chassis. ...other than door mirrors folding with lock/unluck button on the key.

I have not made any changes myself so far with Carly, only done diagnostics. The Carly website is quite transparent about what it can do. Have a look.

I use Carly to read error codes and code. Works great on my 1er & the wife's Mini.

Carly app is wi-fi and works great .... can use on multiple cars and offers "in-app" upgrades for various items. Battery registration was easy peasy!

Top things to code with Carly:

1 roll up windows on lock button
2 auto fold mirrors on lock
3 increase angel eye brightness
4 enable digital speedometer
5 turn on brake lights, headlights, angel eyes, side markers when unlocking. (Useful at night to find your car)
6 remove I-drive warning screen
7 enable video in motion for idrive
8 remove seatbelt ding

Many more options available. Those are the ones I did on my car
