1M/M3 clutch valve & E46 M3 transmission mounts?

I did search the N52/NA engine section, but no luck...

I read that these parts (1M/M3 clutch valve & E46 M3 trans mounts) can be used on the 1 series...so my thinking is that since our E90 chassis is very closely related, perhaps these OEM mods would work for us too.

Can someone confirm if what I read was true? And if so, are they worth the upgrade?

The clutch delay valve? Just toss it in the trash and don't buy anything. You can just connect the lines together.

But yes the E46 M3 mounts work well. I'm about to install them myself actually. For $40 it isn't bad at all, but don't expect a game changer. I think replacing a 100k+ mi soft mount with a new M3 mount should make a decent difference though.

Thanks for your feedback! I believe my thinking is largely inline with yours.

My biggest question is does the 1M/M3 clutch valve possibly had a modified valve from the factory?

And you are correct - fresh engine mounts on my 12 year old/110,000 mile E90 will be an "upgrade", but are the E46 M3 mounts noticeably stiffer when compared to the stock E90 330i?

Are the E46 M3 engine mounts solid rubber as opposed to liquid filled (I believe) like the E90 330i engine mounts?

Not sure on the clutch valve.

Yes E46 M3 mounts are noticably stiffer than the stock non-M ones. I've heard the stock ones be described as "you can compress and squish them with your hands" while the M3 ones are stiff solid rubber.

I'll actually be getting mine in the mail today.

And E46 engine mounts won't work, but these aftermarket ones will and won't add too much NVH. BTW yes stock mounts are hydraulic fluid filled.

I have m3 megan mounts that are considerably stiffer than stock. They fit fine and are a noticeable improvement.

Absolutely worth it.

I *think* the e46 M3 engine mounts are solid, but they won't fit anyway. I did the akg 75d mounts and love them. Although expect a large increase in NVH with these. I would imagine the 95a durometer mounts would be somewhat more civilized.

It seems there are a few n52 engine mount options around nowadays, but I haven't heard alot about them...

I used these on two different cars and they were the best set I found. Torque them properly and use loctite and you’ll have the best of both worlds - no NVH increase and much positive engagement than stock.

Much more beefy, but still some solid rubber. Reasonable price, too. One of the few mods that doesn’t feel like a mod. Rare.

+1 on the Rogue transmission mounts. Well worth it and an easy DIY fit.

I just put stock motor mounts in after 110k and I gotta say that made a pretty big difference too.

I went with the M3 clutch "valve" because I did not want to effectively shorten the line by connecting directly. But it's basically just an open "valve" with no constricting orifice inside.. same thing you buy as an aftermarket part from the online tuners.

This is great news.

It's too bad this part isn't standard in every BMW though.

IMHO, you just can't beat going OEM+

I have an e91 328i and e82 128i. I put e46 m3 trans mounts on both and they made a more noticeable difference on the e82. Mileage could be a factor as the e82 was at 65k, e91 was at 56k. For what it's worth, the bushings on the 1er seem to generally be softer. There are plenty of stiffer options out there and I'd go for something more aggressive if you're building a more track focused vehicle but for a semi-daily/weekend driver, the e46 mounts are a happy compromise.

I also did the clutch delay valve on my e82 but haven't gotten around to it on my e91 yet. Huge difference on my e82. I had a 335i a few years ago and don't recall the same annoyances with the clutch and a rough 1-2 shift like I did in my e82 before putting in the 1M/M3 unit. The e91 doesn't seem to be that bad either, but I'm planning to pull the stock one out to see within the next couple weeks. It's possible e9x has the better flowing unit already. I'd rather spend a few bucks on a housing rather than trying to stretch the lines together and risk them blowing apart, dumping the fluid and probably slave cylinder in the process.

Stock e82 -

Thanks so much for chiming in. Your experience with the mounts & CDV are another great set of recommendations/experiences to draw from.

I am setting my car up more for daily/weekend fun, less for track oriented....but still fun.

The upgrade plans are:
+1M/M3 CDV(?)
+E46 M3(?) or 335is(?) motor mounts
+front & rear suspension M3 arms
+3.64 rear diff w/Mfactory Helical LSD
+M3 subframe bushings
+Bilstein B8 struts/shocks
+BMW Performance springs
+BMW Performance brake kit
+APEX Arc8 18x9 et30 w/Michelin PS 255/30R18 (square fitment)

The BMW Performance brake kit is more of a "wow, I just gotta have it" item....but I don't care man...I just gotta have it.

Just a tidbit that may help someone out. When purchasing my CDV (I went with the OE M3 unit), I found that in the parts diagrams for the M3, there was no valve listed... Very odd I know. There is actually a picture of the part, but it is not labeled (or clickable) and there is no part number listed for it. I remember having a part number (which I can find if anyone needs it), and calling Turner (whom I generally find reputable) for some verification because even though my part number was on their website, it wasn't listed as for an M3 so I wanted to confirm that it was the correct part. Even the salesman at Turner said that there is NO UNIT on the M3, basically saying that the line is directly connected. He was very sure of this... Well having done my own research and reading personal posts on M3post.com that there is in fact a valve, I went through with the purchase anyway.. and yes it was the right part.

Basically I'm just saying that there is some odd and misleading info out there regarding the unit found on the E92 M3.. but rest assured it does exist and it is what you want.

BTW, I only paid about $12 for the part, OEM, can't beat it IMO. It's probably so cheap because there is no "M3" nomenclature associated with it. (I want to say it was listed as for an F30 3 series or something like that.)

If I were you, I'd look into diffsonline.com for a differential. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the MFactory, but I've seen some.. interesting.. reviews here. Diffsonline seems to be super legit, though they're quite pricey. I'm mostly suggesting this because, well hey.. if you can afford the BMW PBK, you can probably swing a diff from diffsonline. Maybe haha =P

If you don't mind checking your records, I'd be grateful for the CDV part number.

And thanks for the heads up regarding Mfactory reviews. I thought they were a good quality LSD, but I obviously needed to do more research. I will check DiffsOnline for sure.

The price for OEM Performance Brake Kit isn't too terrible: ~$1600 for the complete set...which is way cheaper than Brembo, and it bolts on, with no modifications needed - unlike w/F30 retrofit kits.

why are you guys buying a new CDV? Just punch out the metal plug that reduces the hole size. Or just eliminate it. There is more than enough length in the clutch line to eliminate the valve spacer.

I believe the part number referenced above is correct, but I will try to remember to check my records later at home.

That's good to hear about the brakes. Just a heads up, in case you didn't know, I want to say that I've read that the BMW Performance brakes are the same brakes that come on the 135i. I could totally be wrong, but it might be worth looking into in case you could find them used. Of course, the 135i brakes aren't that cool gold color, though.

This... Its what I did to my 335 and took be 10-15mins max with rebleeding. Then its exactly the same as the 1M/M3 version without spending money and looking oem.

I also put the E46 M3 trans mounts in. Big difference in shifter feel while not really adding vibrations. great for a daily use car.

For the engine ones just use 2x right side 335is mounts or the solid rubber 034 ones if you want a little more stiffness.

For $10 it wasn't worth the hassle of potentially damaging the stock one trying to punch it out. If it was $100 or something, I'd test my luck.

It is, I pulled it from my a new one that's still in the package. I was on my phone when I posted in my cramped parts area of my garage.
