mixing 100 octane and 93 octane question

If I filled my 335 up with 1/4 tank 100 octane and the other 3/4 tank with 93, what would the result be? Looking to raise the performance of my SSTT! Thanks.

It couldn't be too much simpler since you give the equation in your question:

If 1/4 of (of=times) 100 and (and = plus) 3/4 of (times) 93 then what (what = equals) octane

(.25 * 100) + (.75 * 93) = 94.75

try two gallons of toluene (100%) and 1 gallon of xylene 100% then go fill up

sherwin williams sells these in gallons,5 gals, and 55 gallon drums for meth heads.

toluene has a 114 octane effective and xylene has a 118 effective octane.

Octane is rating between 0-100 for most of us.

Good stuff. use a pump with a long hose to pump this stuff as it will eat paint faster than you can say oh isht.

toluene is one of the main ingredients that they mix in base gasoline at the pump to make 87/89/91/93 octane fuel. xylene is a little hardcore so i dont recommend it much never over 10% volume.

real fun stuff.

Yep, it's just algebra.
That would be a great question on an algebra test:

Johnny has 2.5 gallons of 91 octane in his 1970 440 6 pack Plymouth Roadrunner. Johnny wants to have 100 octane fuel in his car so he could kick some ass on the strip.
How many gallons of 105 octane must he add to get to the 100 octane goal?

I should write math books.

93 octane is more or less toluene and (other aromatics) mixed on the fly on top of 87 octane go read the gas formulations on the exxon/etc websites its not like top secret isht.

Be sure you realize it is obvious due the discoloration of the spark plugs ceramics that if you blow something up you best change the plugs before sending it in the dealer when running any octane boost.

same goes for nitrous. the rainbow on the plugs would be an easy tell-tale sign. The GM guys would look for that on the camaro since you could just run straight hose (no jet) into the airbox and the ecu would compensate until the injectors failed at static (80%+) duty cycle and broke a cylinder.

very easy to detect you've been using this stuff.

Hmm this sounds like a good alternative for track events where I need to be running 96+. Whats the downside to doing this? How much do 5 gallon tanks of that crap cost?

depends on if you can convince them you are a company its expensive man. but then again how much is unleaded per gallon that has an "effective" 114 or 118 octane?

i would suspect retail pricing at about 7 to 8 dollars per gallon. wholesale/business 4-7 per gallon in 5 gallon amounts.

not far off from leaded C/VP-16.

Plus its fresh in a sealed container. I never buy gas from places that don't move alot of gases the main problem with additives like toluene (100 octane unleaded has alot of toluene) is the aromatics will float away evaporate and leave you with crappy gas.

remember that gas doesn't really mix like you'd think it would too. thats why i think the most logical way to do it is pump toluene in when you are low (say at the vacuum machines at the gas station) then immediately go fill up, giving a nice swish. It's not optimal but leads to least exposure to air.

Use a pump with two hoses whatever you do this stuff will nuke your paint, matter of fact i'd put a bib on the gas tank area and rims. it will bubble any paint so fast your head will spin.

I bet in this warm temperature this would make a huge difference. but since my ghey tune is stock boost there's not point in that.

This is probably really one area bmw could not void your warranty on since gasoline is so screwed up these days (ethanol oxygenated) who knows what you'd get.

so we'll take 20%~ max mix rate of toluene with 114 effective octane. if you feel ballzy you can always mix more % in or add it to 100 octane base fuel

toluene only:
(12 gallons * 93) + (3 gallons * 114) / 15 gallons = 97.2
xylene+toluene:
(11 gallons * 93) + (3 gallons * 114) + ( 1 gallon * 118)/15 = 98.86666

no 100 pump for miles 5 gallons toluene:
(10 * 93) + ( 5* 114) /15 = 100.00

After you carefully pump it in then fill up!! be sure to take some nice hard corners to swish it up.

My suggestion for letting the car detune itself safely is to step on the mixture back down when you are done having fun.

ie while its still has 5 gallons of go-go juice fill it back up with 93 and repeat.

so the ecu isn't shocked going from 96,98,100 straight back to 93 it might be easier on the motor on these hot days by progessing it back.

Try it man matter of fact some home depots carry this stuff now just make sure its 100%

toluol is what sherwin williams calls its 100% mixture.
