Dealer flashed new software when alarm went wrong!
Hey,
I installed the Factory E90 Alarm yesterday into my 335xi and brought it in today to get it activated. They quoted me 1.5 hours labor, which was fine because i just wanted my alarm activated...it's been sitting in my house for two months now waiting to be installed. Unfortunately after 1.5 hours they said the software failed and they had to do a complete update which is exactly what I DIDN'T want. Now they're updating to the latest software and I'm going to have BMW big brother over my tuning back I wasn't planning on doing much to the engine just yet anyhow but now it's going to be that much more of a bitch if I wanted to! Just wanted to vent. Cheers -Dave

They cannot even touch the DWA settings (alarm) until the SSS does a complete car-wide systems update to the latest versions. Every module from CAS to DME to the footwell module must be running the latest software version to let the dealer make car setting changes such as DWA. Just how it works.

As an aside, how come you went for the Laser Interceptor? I'd read good stuff about the Laser Park Pro and Laser Star before, and this site doesn't look kindly upon the LI... CHECK IT OUT
I've wondered what the point of getting the alarm activated at the dealer is once you install it yourself? From what I've read, when you do the install, even the clown nose works, as well as the alarm, and all you get for activating, is the chirp when you turn it on. Is that correct? What else do you get when you activate? |

In regards to the Laser Interceptor, I did some extensive research before getting in on the group buy and at the time there was no competition. LI was rated the best, no contest. The group buy came around and they were offering a significant discount so I said what the hell. Even though it is taking forever, I'm sure I won't regret my decision. I don't know about the poor review...I mean, the V1 gets shitty reviews ALL the time and it's known pretty much everywhere as one of the best radar detectors on the market. However, I will bring up that website in the other forum and see what they say, thanks for the link
In regards to the activation, I don't really know. Once I installed it, the clown nose blinked. However, I tried jumping on the car, opening the doors, hood, etc. and nothing set off the alarm. So I went and got it activated and now it chirps and the alarm happily goes off with enough motion, etc.

V1 hardwire
I have a passport 8500 and was considering a V1. The laser star sounds interesting. Anyone have the 4 transponder unit?

I actually think the car just feels smoother all around, just as fast, I think the same if not better throttle...

My buddy has a November 2007 car and I have a March 2008 production car. Both car's feel the exact same. Nothing about either car is different performance wise until he put in his "tune".

- Droning from the exhaust that was obviously never there before - All sorts of ugly wastegate chattering and flapping that was never there before - a 1 to 2 second delay until boost kicks in after flooring the car which defeats the whole damnm purpose of having the no-lag, two small turbos. Might as well stick a large single on the car now. This is not in peoples' heads. Enough people have chimed in...it's a real problem. |
