DP's a waste without a tune?

Everyday I'm becoming more and more wary of my decision to buy Riss Racing catted down pipes. Surely the pipes are well made, but many people on these forums say that a tune is necessary to get the most out of down pipes, yet others say that they have seen big gains just by slapping a pair on.
I have no desire to buy JB, SSTT, procede, AA Xede, or anything like that, possibly Dinan Stg II at some point, so should I still go through on my purchase?

I would do that but I read some posts that said adding catless dps without a tune was a bad idea for the car.

I put my DP's and a cat-back exhaust on before my tune. My butt dyno didn't feel a difference.

...crap. I have Eisenmann cat-deletes and bastuck rear quads, I don't want to take any more cats out. Maybe its time for a call to my local Dinan dealer? (200 miles away....)

Dont buy it, all you could get is trouble with BMW NA if you get engine problems - the gains will be minimal at the best without a specific tune. The only thing I would go for in the current situation is a flash or maybee SSTT or JB (dummybacks) for a nice little power gain. Piggybacks that alters multiple signals are at end of life now with all the troubles they cause with regards to new program updates.

I will personally get a flash ASAP and stop care about the endless problems with the piggys - a positive bi-effect will be that I will stop wasting huge amount of time on this forum :-)

If you have the patience, you could wait for Conforti to release his Shark Edit or Shark Injector. Get the Dinan if you're worried about the warranty.....and if you don't mind me passin you

yes, a tune will certainly get you the most out of downpipes, yet you want to get the Dinan flash, the tune that does NOT support downpipes. I think you should re-evaluate your decision to purchase one of the piggybacks that DO support downpipes.

If you gonna get your car tuned and dp some point down the road, go get your car tuned first. You will need to remove dp anyways on your way to the dinan dealer if you put dp on first... also catted one is kinda pointless because it will void warranty regardless if you get caught. why not go with catless for more power??

as far as i know, dinan tune doesn't support dp though... so.. gl...

DP's waste without a tune ? It depends on, IMO. We have examples where DP's result in power gains without a specific DP tune: The JB2's, the PROcede v2, etc. However, I expect there would be more gains with a specific DP tune. It's not said, that you will see no gains with the Dinan flash.

Get a tune, Terry, Shiv, Dinan. They produce real power NOW. Simple question - Why spend more money for less power?

No PASSIVE (SSTT, JB whatever) electronic device is "tuned" for downpipes.

The only possible tunes out there that have the potential of being optimized for the downpipes is the PROCEDE, the Active Processor and the Helix. Dinan could do it to if they wanted to, but not as of right now.

Air fuel ratio's and most importantly timing values need to be adjusted for the new primary exhaust system. The combustion chamber exhaust pulses will be cooler and the total system VE will improve.

The car WILL gain power even without a tune due to its inherent nature. The less backpressure (Turbo) the greater the power gains.

Since when is this true? My warranty was never voided and my SA is well aware of the fact that they are on my car. And even if it did void your warranty, catted would be valuable in areas where inspection requires a tailpipe sniffer.

Oh wow Bastuck quads? I love the way they look and I'm trying to find as many images of it as I can. I've seen most of them on this forum already, do you mind pming me some pics of yours?

And to sort of answer your question, a tune with an intercooler is much more important than a tune with downpipes. If you really want power, though, you should just get the tune with the money you are spending.

I'll send some pics of the quads your way pretty soon here.

As far as the downpipes go, I've decided to cancel my order.

Instead, like you mentioned, I may just snag SSTT down the road, or maybe Dinan, only time will tell.

Thanks for all the input guys, thats what these forums are for.
