340xi Track Handling package upgrades
Hi,
What are the go-to upgrades for a 340xi with track handling package?i would like to increase spring rate, not change ride height drastically, and perhaps sway bars. So far it looks like Dinan has offerings to address these. Are there any other competitive offerings that keep my suspension daily drivable, but a little more track oriented? Also, what suspension pieces would I need to mount 19 x 245 width tires without tire rub? |

For grip and better performance, wheels and tires should be first. Reduce the weight with some aftermarket alloys and get some proper summer tires. You can also increase the width of the tires and/or run a square setup to make it fit your preference.
If you just want the car to feel stiffer then you can run aftermarket shocks with the same springs so that the car won't drop much if any, but still get more feedback from the road. Sway bars are not a simple task and require dropping the subframes. Probably not needed for your goals. |

I have a 340xi on order w/ Track Handling. I'll be doing Dinan springs, Dinan Shockwave, and Dinan sway bars to tidy up the handling and feel. Seems to be the most legit setup without going too low and without dropping 3k+ on full coilover setup.
It will be my DD and it's a lease so I don't want to get too crazy... This forum makes me want to spend all my money! |

Thanks. I have pilot sports all around. Next time I need tires I will square them, 245 all around.
How much weight can you save on wheels? Is there a place I can see the weight of my current stock 18” track handling wheels? |

I searched and found the 398M wheels are over 26lbs each. You could easily find other 18x8 wheels that are 20-22 lbs each and mount the 245s on them. If you went with forged wheels they could be between 16-18lbs.
Wheel weights are here. Search for you wheel, click on it, and the weights will be listed towards the bottom. http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/F3...browse/wheels/

As mentioned earlier, reducing unsprung weight / getting wheels which weigh less is one of the earlier options to consider. Does your car have M Adaptive suspension? If yes, Dinan Shockwave software will allow you to preserve investment in adjustable shocks.

wheels and tires make the biggest difference, period. the numbers don't lie. now if you go for some chrome forgiatos, don't expect to get the same performance benefits. but APEX, O.Z., BBS, HRE, etc all offer great looking wheels that don't weigh nearly as much as the oem ones. And they'll be just as strong. |
