M2 Buying

Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, first post.

I am looking at buying a 2nd hand M2. Found one that on paper looks good, but it is interstate.

Will you buy a 2016 with over 30k km? and what will you check / who will you use in Brisbane to check the car?

Thanks!

Personally I feel that is too many k’s but of course it comes down to price. What is it you are looking for spec wise?

Thanks!

This particular one comes with all the specs I want - including sunroof and LBB,

What would you recommend to check?

Also separate to the above, what would you estimate running costs on the M2 p.a.?

I'd say the blue one with 30000km at 80,000 drive away is not too bad, but there are 2-3 private ones at low $80k also 2016 with around 10000km is probably a better proposition, especially I'm sure you can still squeeze a few grand off easily.

Considering new ones are still high 90s, a 12-18 months old one even pre lci for 15-20k discount is reasonable...

I'd predict there would be a few more grand drop when the S55 M2 is announced in a few months.

But despite this being the M2 section... I can't seem to go past choosing the 2015 M3 for the same price as a 2016 M2.... 1 year difference and 10000km difference

I'd avoid interstate buy personally. Because by the time you arrive there, you are already in a passive position, and likely to compromise.

I bought mine from a BMW dealer (just traded in a couple of days before I spotted the car), I was the first to test drive and seriously negotiate with sales (with a MY15 X3 as trade in).

Mechanically I won't worry to much about the M2 as they should still be covered by factory warranty (if there is anything wrong, discover fast and get it fixed before warranty expires).

Are you looking at this in QLD? -> https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/d...AG-AD-15434287

I've been closely monitoring M2 price trend on CarSales for about 1 year.

This white M2 DCT has been around for over 8 months, not sure why it is still not sold at A$81,888... (I was about to inspect the car 6 months ago but gave up due to colour).

https://www.carsales.com.au/private/...SSE-AD-4941434

This white M2 with 7800 KMs at 85k, there should be room to negotiate, if you don't mind the colour

Hey mate,

Just letting you know i have just purchased a new M2 myself today!

I got the following deal in Melbourne.

2017 LCI DCT Alpine White

Options:- Heated Seats, Sun Roof, Seat Lumber support.

The deal was 95K with a 5k rebate from BMW finance so i end up Paying 90K drive away.

This is pretty good deal considering I've had a MY15 (11000 KMs) X3 as trade in but still paid A$3,9888 for a pre-owned (near new tho) long beach blue pre-LCI M2. It comes with pretty much all options but sunroof and heated steering wheel.

Congrats!

Thanks for all the tips!

terrywang planning on getting it checked and then shipped to Melbourne, I need to buy it from a dealer, so private sellers are not an option (unfortunately)

@ JL1 thats a really good price! Only looking at 2nd hand one as its already more than what I planned on getting (was looking at the M240 initially)

Ideally i'd get a blue one, but i'm happy to get a white one, are the blue ones in higher demand / get better resell value?

It seems like right now the supply is higher than demand, and BMW are starting to flog as many M2s out of the showroom as quickly as possible.

They seem to be doing deals for retention (getting out of existing finance) and the $5k finance support for the new car.

With the pending M2 with S55 engine coming out, it's a great time to buy the current M2 for a good deal.

Yeah nice! I am going to buy the Remus exhaust! Sounds the best IMO and is not bad value! I can get trade pricing with carbon tips for $5110.

I spoke to the dealer about the M2, LBB in QLD, the one with 30k kms. Dude was absolutely unwilling to negotuate on price. I politely told him the car simply isnt worth $80 with the kms.

So, having listened to me, they have upped the price by $3 grand this afternoon.

I am ready to buy now, but it seems I must wait until the S55 craters the used market before people are willing to drop prices.

Also, nice deal with the new M2. I went to my dealer (Newcastle), they offerec $99000 M2 Pure drive away, no options (not even folding seats) and $105k drive away for DCT.

I smiled and walked out.

Try calling BMW Sydney. A sales guy contacted me this week (I had already bought a pre-owned during his holiday time off), because I walked into it and closely looked at a white M2 manual last year when the rest of family was at sky zone. They seem to
offer great deal (factory plate clearance bonus with finance?).

Is the M2 coming out with the S55? When is that meant to be happening?

I still prepare the sound of the N54 in the M2, I've had 2 F80 M3's, unbelievable car! However after driving a few M2's I've come to the conclusion they are more nimble and just as much fun if not more fun!

No official date as yet but looks like we will see the S55 in the M2 CS sometime this year.

Current M2 has the N55 not N54.

Hi Folks,

What is the $5k BMW Finance rebate...? As in, on what grounds is this offered...? Do you have to sign up to BMW Finance to obtain this discount, or is the discount only available on cars that people have provided a deposit on and have declined delivery...?

I guess a related question is whether this offer regularly comes around in January...? I recently read that BMW Australia a forgettable year ... and one appeared yesterday that showed they'd had a 15.7% drop in annual sales.

Ouch!

Maybe those awful numbers are related to the promotional bonuses available at the moment...?

Cheers,

I've not had the experience of driving the M3 ... I just hate the sound of them. The exhaust note of the M3/4 is awful, and while no doubt they're a (very) good car, the M2 more than has their measure and offers more all-round appeal.

The N55 in the M2 is fantastic ... I, for one, have zero regrets about buying it even with the rumors around the upcoming S55 engine. I hope that BMW improve the sound of the S55 in the M2 ... its hard to believe they could make it sound worse

Cheers,

According to the M2 rumours thread here, production should be starting March 2018.. so announcement fairly soon I'd assume. Probably see that in aus end of the year I'd say.

S55 on M3 and M4 does sound a bit dull. But the extra 30kw (302kw) is a plus... since it's detuned, the tuning potential should be pretty good...

Cheers,
"problem" with the N55 engine is it's old. First introduced in 2010, on the M2 it's "maxed out" already, back in 2010 on the 135 it started out as 225kw, M135/M235i it's 240kw and M2 only 272kw. Flash tune on the M135i and M235i N55 engine gets the same output as a M2 with the same tune.

Even though BMWs/M cars aren't suppose to be about the engine, more the chassis and driving package, the M2 do indeed need an upgraded engine like the S55. It should be a pretty big improvement with twin turbo vs twin scroll single turbo.
