Need a muffler delete, but no shops are willing to do it. Is it illegal?
My friends and I went to 2 shops yesterday and they said they won't do a muffler delete for my friend.. At the first shop, the guy said,"if you have a brother or friend maybe they can do it for you,but i can't". it seems like he was implying that it was illegal or something. so is it illegal? is that why they wouldn't do it?

Why would you want to delete your muffler? Your car will be insanely loud. If you want more noise, delete the resonator and/or delete the cats.
Everything is almost illegal here in California. If your exhaust is above 92 dB, the legal limit, it is no longer 'legal'. However people still do it, the majority of modified cars out there can get ticketed if the cops wanted to. To answer your question...you didn't look hard enough. Some shops may not do it because they don't want to take liability of you telling the 5-0 when you get pulled over that their place did it. But there are A LOT of shops in SoCal that are willing to do so. Of course they would have to tell you that 'it's for off road use only'. |

What the OP is trying to do is remove the mufflers..which is WAYYY back of the cats on the E9x. To the OP-you totally misunderstood me. When I said you didn't look hard enough, I didn't mean your physically features..that wouldn't even make any sense. I mean you didn't ask your friends about good exhaust shops, I'm willing to bet you just drove to 2 random muffler shops. |

PS..he does know that this rectangular piece is the muffler, right? So if he deletes this thing, all he will have is just pipes running straight up. If he does this, I give it a months top before he gets sent to the ref station. |

Same as the exempt for cars older than 19xx. I believe it's 1960ish since they're considered classic cars. That's what I love about my car now..I don't ever have to worry about getting rolled. I can pass by mobile smog stations all day long and not have to bust a bitch like I did in my old car. |

judging by your avatar... it seems you do make an effort to look "hard" which is why I'm guessing you misinterpreted it. "lieutenant vato?" are you hispanic? you are from Arcadia... which means you are most likely asian.. what's up with the Vato? Vatos Locos -4- EVER! |

The ref station is where you get sent to when you get rolled by the 5-0 or CHP. They put your car on a lift to see if it's stock or not. It's not common with the E9x..but very common with other lower cost cars, mainly Japanese cars. |

Because sound is one of the things that helps motorcylists get noticed, same reason why bikes are allowed to drive with their highbeams on, it helps you notice them. When you notice them, the less likely you are to kill them.
