Window streaking or smearing

My 18 M2 gets window streaking or smearing from the electric motors i believe. I used to have on my M4 as well but not my x5, assume has to do with coupe's frameless??

Has anyone fixed it or added window tint and it has gone away? I'd like to tint but not sure if streaking or smearing changes or ruins tint. Dont see any posts so assume issue remains...

My e46 and e92 had this issue as well so i suspect you're right about it being related to frameless windows. Tint didn't help, if anything it made it worse since the film adds thickness and black shows the streaks much more than clear glass.

I just wipe it away with a micro fiber cloth. Nothing else you can really do about it.

Means there some goo stuck on the seal. Take some alcohol and clean it thoroughly. May times it's from bird stuff or bug juice.

Hmm, I've gotten the streaking from day one. Haven't had anything but water on the windows.

I was going to mention it to at the service center when I went for the first service. It seems worse on the driver's side for me, the windows even stay all wet after pulling them up after a wash.

Only problem with that theory is that the smears happen on the INSIDE of the glass. Whatever causes it is in the door panel from the factory. Probably some sort of grease or lubricant on the window lift motor. I've had it happen regularly on my last 3 bmw's. It's not bird shit, trust me.

Junk gets on the inside as well. Including water after a wash. As soon as you take the window down it drags junk in there.

I've seen this on VW Polo's + Golfs. Usually passes after a couple of months of normal use. MJ

It is not junk getting in. It is track lubricant. All of my newer BMWs have done this from day one. Each one I have had to wipe the extra lube away from BMWs sloppy application. Easy to do when getting the windows tinted since my installer pulls the panel back to get the tint down lower on the window.
