noob question on engine oil
On my drive home today, it said minimum oil level and im at 5400 miles. I have no idea what kind of oil i just fill into my car, please help out, and i know im supposed to fill one quart. Is it normal at this amount of miles for the oil to be at minimum level? thank you, i know its pretty noob =)

BMW 5w30 (Castrol) is what you need. You can buy it at your BMW dealer's parts department, or wait until your service department opens up and they'll fill you up for free.
You can drive one quart low for a little while with no problems. |

Pick up a couple of filters from the dealer, some oil ( BMW Castrol or Mobil1 0w40 ) and do an oil change. Your turbos will thank you for it!

haha...I was thinking the same thing. It is about time for an oil change especially if he is runing a piggy. Motor is working hard and needs new oil for sure.

No. You want oil with BMW LL-01 approval. Realistic choices are:
BMW oil from the dealer Mobil 1 0W-40 Castrol 0W-30 (yes, 0W-30). NOT the American version of Mobil 1 5W-30. NOT the Castrol Syntec 5W-30 sold in American parts stores. |
