Cleaning M Performance floor mats
I noticed my M Performance floor mats are starting to look dirty. I haven’t been able to find a good source explaining the proper way of cleaning them.
I was wondering what other forum members are doing? Thanks in advance for the input. |

Make sure you try to clean off as much of the chemical off as you can, if left behind they will clean your shoe spotless everytime it gets wet and it will get much dirtier in no time.

I can't speak specifically to M mats, but I will share my experiences with cleaning mats. Years ago, I bought a 1990 325ix red on natural interior. The interior was in decent shape, but after a few decades of use, the entire carpet was stained here and there. I pulled the seats, center console and wrestled the entire carpet out. I used several auto and home carpet cleaning products, then scrubbed, brushed, hand messaged the stains. Ended up with lots of suds and cleaner residue so I started to hand rinse and blot it all out. Realized this was not giving the results I wanted, I decided what the heck and just hosed it off. It was a bright sunny and warm day; I hung the carpet over the railing on my deck. The sun dried it and it came out fantastic!
It occurred to me that automotive carpet is all synthetic (da), and designed to resist wet shoes, snow ice and salt (at least here in the Northeast.) The point is - to clean mats I now use a quality cleaner like Griots (any cleaner you can find in your auto parts store should work), follow their directions and then use a light duty pressure washer or garden hose to rinse. Don't be afraid to thoroughly soak the entire mat. Do it on a warm clear day and hang them vertically facing the sun. They come out like new! Hope this helps. |

Use a mild detergent, firm bristle brush and repeat if need be. If it’s really harsh, you. Can buy some cleansers that’ll work pretty well. Just make sure to rinse all the chemicals and detergents off really well.

I am not sure why this thread was moved to the M2 forum. The M Performance floor mats are used in multiple BMW models. So it is really a generic question and should have stayed in the general forum.

When I'm washing the car I hit them with my power washer, then some Dawn and a stiff nylon brush. Rinse with the power washer again and by time I'm done washing the car, the sun has dried them (both sides).
They're rubber and will come clean but I find that they're not wearing all that well. Some spots on the silver look kind of dirty where my feet sit, but it's not dirt, it's wear.

I tried the washing machine route today. They came out pretty clean and air dried in about an hour.
