How reliable are vin decoders?

So I bought a used 2014 f30 328i and went onto a vin decoder site to see what kind of options the car had and it states that my car has the lighting package yet my car has halogens in it and is still under warranty if that matters. I was just curios as to why there's no xenon's?

Have checked my current car and previous 3 via VIN decoders. They've all been accurate.

That’s not Xenons. Has nothing to do with headlights. Interior Lights.

522 Xenon Light Xenon light
524 Adaptive Headlights Adaptive cornering light
563 Lights Package light package

ThatÂ’s not Xenons.
If it's not xenons what is it?

"Lights Package" in the VIN decoder doesn't mean HIDs. It's like interior ambient lighting, or something like that.

563 is the extended lightning package and includes ambient lights.

- ambient lights (amber LEDS) in door handles front a rear
- lights in footwells
- lights under doors for exiting
- lights above rear view mirror on the roof console

You can even change the color of the lights via iDrive. White for sport and amber for classic.

This "color change feature" is shit with the saddle brown interior! White looks red and red looks red, just a deeper red. (except pillars which I never see/look at) Worked well with the black interior I had and probably the others too. I was also disappointed not to see more than two colors as the A4 and C300 offer a lot more.

The grass is always greener. The "Classic" amber lighting barely shows up on my black interior, but on loaners that I have had with tan interior, it looks really good. Every few months, I think "Why don't I give the Classic lighting another chance?" but I always end up switching it back to Sport.

Definitely doesn't help that the trim lighting is dimmer for us to boot! First world problems, right?

I'm still surprised by how many used car buyers that can physically see and try the car before they buy have so little clue what's in/on the car.

there's been a few cases of ppl here getting more or less than what the car was originally spec'ed based on vin decoder. one person lucked out and got dinan springs and shockware. another got cheap*ss China ebay parts installed like downpipe and FMIC.
