BMS stage 1

Hey everyone, I was curious about whether the BMS stage one tune will work on both the N55 and N20?

Bought one for my wife about 2 years ago for a 2013 328i at $379. I recently purchased a 2014 335i, and she is looking to trade her 328i in. Can I take her piggy back on put it on the 335i? I did some google searches and found mixed information as to whether it can be swapped between engines.

Without doing any research I would say no. Completely different cars and specs...unless the guys at N54 tech approve I wouldn't even attempt that.

Best is to message terry@burgertuning.com or jon@burgertuning.com ... they will be able to identify if your stage 1 is capable of working on both or not. iirc this cross compatibility started early 2017 but I could be wrong.

Yes and that's why stuff like this is called piggyback

With ECU flash you'd be scared being told one size fits all. But here with piggyback, don't care, boost it up, throw at it, let DME deal with it on its own LOL

Not a chance with a flash lol

I think I narrowed it down and they make one that is compatible across n20 and n55 but i'm 99% sure thats not the one I have. Oh well, at least I get to steal her M405 wheels

The latest stage 1 is the same for N20 N26 N55 and even S55. It's only different for 2011 Harness A E Series.

not sure. I know the JB4 for N20 and N55 is as simple as updating the firmware. connections are the same. but the Stage 1, I'm not sure about. I know there is no updating firmware on a Stage 1, but maybe?

Thanks Jeff, I spoke to Terry and he said the same as you so I hooked it up and all is good. New tune, New wheels, FREE.....can't beat it

The newest stage 1 tune that came out 2-3yes ago can differentiate between the N55 and N20 automatically based on the tmap voltage and set its tuning accordingly.

So you are good to go.

For everyone else reading this thread, the Jb stage 1 needs to be the latest version for it to work on the N20 and N55.
If you got the older Jb stage 1 unit, do not use it on different engines.
