Dinan STG II rev 2 to rev 1 Dyno Comparison

OK so I just got back from the dyno. The results are interesting. Let me start by giving the breakdown. This was done on the same dyno for both revision 1 and 2. Both times 91 Octane was used. The biggest difference is today the temp was about 90 and it was probably at least 20 degrees cooler during the rev 1 dyno. I have a 6mt.

Here is my first dyno with revision one. Note that the peak HP was 320 however the dyno did not pick up a torque reading for that particular run.

Below is the rev 2 dyno done today. For a visual comparison I had them overlay one of the rev 1 dynos that had both a HP and Torque reading so that you can see the difference. The blue is rev 2 and the red is rev 1. After 4 pulls the most HP I made was 309. That particular run did not provide a torque readout. The runs I did get a torque readout were very good. 386rwtq.

The biggest difference that I noticed between rev 1 and rev 2 were two things. My afr is much leaner on rev 2 compared to rev 1. This could have been the emmisions changes they made. The other difference confirms what I thought I was feeling. The HP and torque are stronger up to about 4800 rpms after that it looks like they may have taken some power out. Notice that after 4800 rpms the rev 2 flatlines were rev 1 gave a little more before tapering off. This was the part of the band were I thought and felt something was missing.

We really need to get some more rev 1 and rev 2 comparisons on the same dynos too see if this is common with all of the rev 2 tunes compared to rev 1. I definatley like the torque increase but feel that the HP numbers are just not what Dinan is advertising. Unfortunatley I do not have a baseline of my car stock but for comparison we took a look at three different stock 335s ran on the same dyno and the average HP and torque was 283rwhp and 290rwtq.
I hope this helps some of the other Dinan users or potential users.

Hard to compare unless same conditions.

Thx for the results anyhow, but can you really compare the two? 20 degF is a big difference for a turbo car.

Are you able to book an early morning dyno to compare things more fairly?

If temperature was the issue wouldn't I see a decrease across the board and not just at 4800rpms on up? I agree that temperature could have played a part in the HP number but my torque is also up.

Wicked, nice work. The lines are so damn close. Is the difference that noticeable?

Bubbles, I went to the dealer this week to this week to get some minor warranty stuff done. I told them not to do the flash update,(I did get a letter from them) and they didn't push me on the issue, didn't seem to care. I am still going to hold off. You going to keep waiting? I'm still thinking about the Sharkedit thing and saving the rev 1, getting the rev 2 then and testing, knowing I can flash back and forth at any time.

General rule of thumb for temp correction on power loss is for every +10 F ~ 1 % power loss. So 1% of 300 whp = 3 whp, 20 F ~ 6 whp loss. Apply that to your original dyno of 314.76 whp the end result would be ~ 308.76. So the dyno doesn't really show a significant power loss (<0.5whp).
This is true unless the dyno already added the temp correction.

Nice torque numbers for sure! Thanks for the review/dyno. The HP is interesting. GAMEOVR got really solid HP numbers: 343.

Looks like the Rev. 2 means business.

Not really, I think it is in my head. Since the torque is coming on sooner/harder, the midrange doesn't feel as strong but it still is.

The Dyno already added the temp correction, notice the STD. (standard, not the bad kind of STD)

This is why I am curious to see more rev 1 to rev 2 dynos. If the dyno does add the temp correction then it shouldn't be that far off. I had a best of 320hp with rev1 compared to 309hp with rev2. We will have to wait for more dyno comparisons. I think I may be the only one so far that has a rev1 to rev2 only comparison.

yeah ya'll need to spend more money on some higher octane gas and less on dyno's

i think its safe to say now:
dinan is less POWER than the other guys options which make more boost
dinan is fast
dinan is warranty worry-free.
dinan is fun.

Unfortunatley we do not have the luxary of anything higher than 91 Octane here in CA. You can find some 100 Octane at some places but that just seems overkill for daily driving.

Actually based on the corrected dyno numbers, it's 53 whp increase. This is still questionably low. I just got the revised stg 2 (with AT fix), the low end throttle response does feel a lot better, but pass 3500 rpm the car just doesn't quite measure up to the original flash.

Yeah I feel that too, but it still has better juice in that range than the stock set up. I am waiting for my Rix Effects Gauge Pod to arrive then I can see what its doing better. I don't want to throw more money on Dyno.s for now.
