Non Run Flat

I just ordered a X3 30i with the non run flat tires and the spare.

Does anyone know what (brand and style) non run flat tires are OEM on a X3?

Just FYI, ordering the spare option ends up adding a 2" tumor to your cargo area. (in other words the floor is lifted up to accommodate the tire)

Kumho Crugen HP91 it is

Thanks Troy, you are correct. I found this after you steered me in the right direction. It is from Babcock “Tire Review”. I believe that these are for the performance non RFT configuration as they are summer tires even though the article says all season. The HT51 is their all season tire.

Wally

“BMW has selected the Kumho Tire Crugen HP91 as OE fitment for the new BMW X3 SUV. The UHP tire will be delivered in a 245/50R19 105W fitment on BMW’s latest-generation X3, offering outstanding hydroplaning resistance and driving stability at high speeds.

The Crugen HP91 promises a newly developed compound designed to provide a comfortable ride and excellent wear characteristics. The tread design maximizes steering stability by reinforcing rigidity and also creates a balanced contact patch with the road. The HP91 also features four wide circumferential grooves for enhanced performance on wet surfaces for all-season traction and control.

BMW began production of the new X3 at their Spartanburg factory in June of last year and the tires are manufactured at Kumho’s Gwangju plant in the South Heolla Province of Korea.

“Kumho’s high levels of quality and engineering were the key success factors,” said Harry Choi, CEO of Kumho Tire USA. “Kumho Tire is fully committed to its continuous innovative development on products and maintaining exceptional service to our partners. “

Another TireReview article calls the HP91 a summer tire:
“The Crugen HT 51 is a light truck/SUV all-season tire designed with an asymmetric tread pattern. The tire is available in 39 sizes, 15- to 20- inch wheel diameters and comes in three speed ratings, R, S and T.

Crugen HP91 is a light truck/SUV summer tire. The tire will be available in 51 sizes, 16- to 22- inch, and in a speed rating of H,V,W, and Y.

Same here. We have the 19" non-RFTs FWIW.

Bridgestone performance????

The customer reviews of the Bridgestone Dueller HP AS on Tire Rack are poor compared to others.

What is your evaluation? I am especially interested in the wet and snow performance.

What size are your tires? I only see a 235/50-19 for Duellers not the 245/50-19 that is standard in the 19 inch option
Thanks

They're fine for us; no issues with about 4500 miles on the odometer so far. It's a brand-new size for the tire, it seems. The X3's 19" tires for the non-RFT Bridgestones are still not available on TireRack, Discount Tire, or on the Bridgestone website oddly. I've been checking because I want to add a road hazard warranty through Discount Tire, but have not been able to since they don't stock it anywhere. Very strange.

Im curious what brand of tires I will get on mine. European market gets 225 tires standard, even for the 30d/30i. Also the default tires are non-RFT now, and there is no spare tire and no elevated cargo area. Only tire repair kit. Its all about CO2 now, less weight, less drag, etc.

Replacement of the OEM Non RFTs

In reading the Tire Rack reviews on the Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport AS non RFTs, I am disappointed that BMW goes with such terrible tires. I desire tires that are good in wet and light snow.

There does not seem to be a lot of all season tires in the 245/50-19 size. The best performing tires are in the ultra high performance or high performance passenger tire category.

Since the X3 is a SAV, will these passenger tires be compatible with the suspension dynamics of the X3?

Thanks

It could be that the tires put on the car are dependent on which region the car is being shipped to, rather than being totally random. The reviews for the Bridgestone are negative for two factors: tread life and snow/ice performance. Tire Rack's own review of the tires dinged them for wet performance, but lauded the precise handling and dry traction. Considering I'm in the Sun Belt, maybe that's why BMW gave me these tires? Who knows. All I know is that the tire has been fine so far, even in thunderstorms. We haven't had snow here in a couple of years so no comment on that.

Yokohama non RFTs

I heard that some owners have gotten Yokohama 19. “ non RFTs as OEM tires with their delivery.

Is this true? If so, what style?

Thanks

I'm not aware of 'non' RFTs in Yokohama brand, WallyF. The standard choice in the US back in Oct for the G01 X3 M40i was the Yokohama ADVAN Sport V105 ZPS 245/50R19 105W performance tire, which is what we chose.

We've been pleased with it so far, but it is a(n) RFT.

Tire Rack has Yokohamas in non RFTs

Max,

Tire Rack has them in non RFT. I did not know the I could specify the Yokohama tire when I placed the order.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

I hope My X3 comes with the Yokohama Advans. The Bridgestone Dueler are terrible in the snow.

WallyF, sorry, you will not get Yokohama ADVAN - they are for M40i. Besides, I believe you want all seasons?

BMW, like most manuf., test and approve different tyres -e.g. no all seasons for Europe.

Tyres must fulfil a lot of criteria, and may differ from tyres bought elsewhere- although same designation.

It is unlikely BMW will approve shitty tyres, but there are still differencies - typically Michelin being "best". Current X4 M40i, came solely with Michelin Pilot Super Sport non-RFT.

Non RFTs in 245/50R19

My X3 xDrive30i is getting option 25X, wheel 692 with non RFT tires. There are not very MANY non RFT tires in this size. Apparently Bridgestone makes the Dueler Sport AS as a non RFT even though it is not a standard even on the Bridgestone website. I am hoping that I get anything but this terrible tire.

So, I am not getting a M40i and the size will be on 19 “ wheels. The Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3+,Yokohama Advan, Continental DWS or Pirelli P Zero would be a better tire.

Hope to see my X3 on next Monday. It is waiting for a carrier right now. I will know soon enough.

Wally,

I took delivery of my 2018 X3 xDrive30i on March 29 as a first time BMW owner.

Ordered same option as you, 25X, wheel 692 with non RFT tires. Like jalan and some others, I received the Bridgestone Dueller H/P Sport AS as well. Not a bad tire, but would have much preferred Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3+ tires.

Anyway, just another voice saying these are okay for now. Will probably purchase Michelin's next.

Vehicle is at dealer being prepped

Just went to see my new xDrive30i at the dealer. It is still being prepped.

Unfortunately, it came with the usual Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport AS non RFTs.
They better be acceptable in the wet and snow or they will be GONE!

Otherwise, the vehicle looks great. I will post some pictures after we take delivery.

Me too... I should have researched a bit more and I'd have settled for a mobility kit when running snow tires.
