Alpine White paint quality

Hi there, finally went to the dealer today to have a look at the X3 after disappointing X4 reveal. Have settled for alpine M40i with either black or cognac combo with the matt cove wood.

Question is the paint quality of the alpine white. The previous gen alpine white would easily flake and chip.

What’s the current experience?

I'm not sure what model year had the prior generation paint.

However, I can tell you that my 2009, 2015 and 2018 M40i with Alpine White (Paint Code 300) have excellent paint.

Well, if you are having issues with your Alpine White paint chipping and flaking, you have something else wrong with the paint prep, not the quality of the paint. I have owned four different BMWs since 2008, most current, 2018, all of them Alpine White, and none of them have ever had any issue with the paint chipping and/or flaking. The only chips I experienced were caused by rocks, not paint quality. Paint protection film (Xpel) will stop the rock chips.

Same here, only issues I ever had with AW300 were rock chips (unavoidable in AZ), or basically environmental elements having their way with it. The X3 will be getting some paint protection film for sure this time around.

Same as the other folks, X4guy - we've never had an issue with our Alpine White BMWs, and specifically our 2012 X3 35i as well. Although we don't have AW with our G01, can't imagine the experience would be different. Glad to hear you've chosen a G01.

AW on my 2015 35i was rock solid. You should have no issues.

AW was so great on my 2008 e92 that I went for it again for my 2018 M40i
