Picked up my F87 yesterday
I started looking for a M2 a few weeks ago and test drove one at my local dealership. My hard criteria were 6MT, no sunroof and Mineral Grey or Black Sapphire Metallic. I usually buy black cars, but in the case of the M2 felt that black hides some of the lines and curves of the car. And having seen MG in person, it was a interesting color and dark and understated enough for my tastes. Ideally, I wanted a car with no options besides Car Play.
For those who know me, I have a 2007 BMW Z4M Coupe with 91K miles on it and going on my 11th year of ownership. I actively tracked that car for about 7 years and over 150 track days all over the east coast. Now I simply want to keep that car for the occasional old school driving experience. The last 3+ years I have been tracking a 2013 Audi TT RS that has been buckets of fun and has been my muscle car as well. That will become a more dedicated track car now for a couple of years. The M2 will be my daily driver and road trip car until I am ready to retire the RS and phase the M2 in as a dual purpose car. My dealer had 6 cars on the lot but none met my criteria. They did a search and found one landing on port but could not negotiate a allocation exchange with the other dealer. They also discouraged me from placing an order saying that I will be way behind on the list and it could take 8-10 months to get a car. I started searching and found a base black car in Philadelphia and a MG with Exec Pkg, Carbon wing & mirrors, black front and grills in Eugene, OR. Decided to go with the MG and live with the driver assist annoyances. Wife and I flew down from Seattle to Eugene yesterday morning - 43 minutes flying time and were picked up by our Sales person from the dealership in a X4 at the Eugene airport. I had signed the paperwork earlier in the week, the car was washed and ready to go, so we were mostly in and out. Except I spent 20 minutes installing blue tape to the front for the ~280 mile drive back. Ran out of tape so made a trip to the Home Depot and finished off the job. The CF wing is bigger than I thought it would be. The passenger side hood latch seems tight so I will need to figure out if there are adjustments there. Ready for the drive home. Dropped off at my local detailer for Xpel Ultimate install on the front bumper, hood, fenders, headlights, mirrors and maybe Gtechniq C1/EXO on the rest of the car. Willkommen buddy
I think you'll find that unlike the TTRS where the Facebook group seems to have a lot of good info (when those dudes from the UK aren't busy taking the piss out of each other), the M2 FB group is kind of a waste. I for one am happy to have an active forum for this car. Get yourself a BMW "ENET" cable and head over to Bimmerfest's coding section and then you can start hacking your car... You'll probably need different software and cable from the Z4. And as I've said previously, there are really no downsides / annoyances to the "driver assists" in the Exec package. The lane-departure thing is entirely pointless anyway; it doesn't actively correct your steering AFAIK, it just makes the wheel vibrate (and I can barely feel it). I have it off right now anyway. The emergency braking thing has never actually kicked in for me, although it came close once or twice and beeped. Again, single button to turn it off. Neither is adding much in the way of weight because they just use a camera behind the mirror. Plus, exec package is what gives you the fancy adaptive LED headlights, which are cool at night. I suppose you'll have almost no use for a heated steering wheel though...

Congratulations, thanks for adding the photos, it's fun to get a look into your story and journey.
Question for you about the blue tape...I may have to go to Texas to pick up my car, and was trying to figure out the best temporary protection for the drive back to AZ. I've read about Xpel Trac Wrap, and was also considering asking the dealer to just have some of that white transport wrap ready. The blue tape looks easy as well. Did you choose blue tape just for speed and ease, or is it also a good protector vs. these other options? Thanks in advance! |

Regarding ZPrime's comment below, if you ever have a momentary lapse such as drowsiness or reaching for something and tugging the steering wheel, the vibration will alert you as you're about to cross into opposite traffic or off the shoulder hopefully avoiding a potential accident.

Congratulations and I am glad you were able to find a MG 6 speed. Seattle BMW is down to four cars and all the M2s they have sold have been 6 speeds.
I used Alex Long as my service advisor in case you don’t have anyone that you work with. He is a great guy. I waited for the 1200 mile service. It took about and hour and a half. |

Thanks guys.
The CF spoiler is indeed a BMW OEM part and apparently an option. I’ll look into ENET. Would love to tweak some settings. VCDS in the VW/Audi world is quite a one stop shop tool. I get your point re: TT RS owners group on FB. The Brit crew gets annoying at times with their internal “politics”, but the knowledge level in that forum is quite high. Forum traffic has shifted there as well. Blue tape is awesome. I’ve transported my TT RS from NJ using blue tape and helped my buddy transport his new RS7 from LA using blue tape. Works really well if you do it right. And the paint looks new once removed. |

That last photo had me nervous, lol. Might want to make it a habit to back into parking spaces so your camera and parking sensors can help you prevent any unwanted accidents.

Many congratulations on the car. I know think should have done the same protection on the car temporarily. Mine is going for Xpel this week in couple of days. couldn't get an earlier appointment..the grey indeed is stunning..
