Creaks and rattles?
I've been in my 30i xDrive for about six weeks now and it definitely has some creaks. I mostly drive by myself so I haven't had a chance to isolate the exact source(s), but generally it seems to be coming from one or both passenger side doors. Have others noticed similar creaks/rattles in their G01? My encore appointment is coming up in a few weeks, so hopefully they can do whatever needs to be done to button things down. Prior to my 30i I drove a rock solid 2015 328xi for three years, so I'm surprised and disappointed with the creaks I'm hearing now.

I've got a pretty annoying intermittent rattle in the rear cargo area, I've ripped off all the plastic panels back there and applied sound deadening as much as possible.
Yet to find out what the real culprit is yet. |

so far no rattles here. My F25 had 2 rattles/creeks that were common in 2011 - one from the left A pillar and one from the sunroof. sunroof creek on 2011 was super common.
no creeks or rattles on the G01 yet. hoping it stays that way.

Mine was creak and rattle free at first, but unfortunately that didn't last. I hope yours fares better.

No creeks and rattles with four months of ownership, 3,000 miles and bad winter roads.

Nasty rattle at idle on the X3 M40i after 700 miles, somewhere on the lower left, between driver and rear seat.. can't find the source -- it's deep inside somewhere. Not cool.

We have a "chirp", high pitched chirp like baby bird somewhere in the back. It is not speed dependent, brake dependent, or suspension dependent as far as I can tell. It just chirps randomly, with various lengths of sound. Pretty annoying. 30i.........

I have something similar to what todd is reporting, though it looks like it's speed dependent in my case.
It sounds randomly, but once it does, it becomes apparent if I accelerate to over 30-40km/h, then it becomes much more noticeable around 60-80km/h. Once it goes past 80km/h, it is a bit less annoying because of other noises (tire noise, wind noise, bigger engine noise, etc). It is closer to some high-pitched sound than a bird chirp. I will definitely have this checked when I drop the car for service, but it's supposed to be in December..long way to go. Before then, I will try to live with it - there's no dealer nearby. |

Got a clicking noise within the drivers seat bottom - noticed it 1 day after picking up the car. Super annoying. Taking it in for repair in a week

Handle brake test might not reveal much, but braking per say is misleading. Because on BMWs the car is always braking, rotors always touching the surface and automatically more so when sensors detect water. Service did brake testing- and they could not find the issue be it I showed them crystal clear recordings. In the end, actual bedding, + them pushing the plate fully resolved it. Note that bedding in does more than just recondition the rotor surface, it also re-calibrates brake liquid pressure. So, for example, after two weeks away and it rained, a rear caliper did not heat up close to its opposite. One was hot, one was lukewarm. A bedding in cycle resolved it and temperature measures identically 290-300C. If that had not resolved it, would have serviced the entire rear caliper. If you have 24/7 objects in the cockpit, it is likely it was never beded in, or they would have flown around and you would have purged the cockpit. But the key take away is that the process is a must, esp after any rainy/winter season and every summer, and after any storage. If neglected, the brake system carries around the legacy issues (minor thickness variation, harmonics, pulsations etc) the entire lifespan of that rotor. When am due to replace the rears (prediction is 140,000 kms so yr 5-6), will also replace the sensors (10$ each) and the back plates. That way I do not port the issue on my next rotor set. Weather in the greenbelt, Ottawa, Montreal, for those north of your border the pads/discs do not work for months esp January -February. We take our time on cold days, glide to stops, glazing the discs, because actual hard braking at -20C, is pretty obvious ABS kicks in and even the best winter tires glide. At -40 rubber is irrelevant. That is why so many folks loose rotors every 2 winter/3 summers, and by the 3d winter those keeping them, they would never pass 120-0 emergency braking test- not vs year 1 stock. I have a very, very light rattle from the backseat or rear somewhere. Still haven’t had a chance to ride in the back to check it out.
Another person in a different thread mentioned there was a rattle from the middle seat which would disappear when folded down, so I’ll try that out next. |

Seat Belt B Pillar Passenger Side
Located an annoying rattle.
At any speed over any surface an annoying rattle popped up. I thought it was coming from the rear at seatbelt attachment points. It was actually the attachment point of the front passenger seatbelt in the B pillar. I was able to lessen the noise by pressing in on the torx bolt mounting point. But as soon as the passenger door opens then closes it comes back. BMW to fix under warranty repair at next service. I located this YouTube video which gives a pretty good description of the rattle. I don't know what year or model BMW the guy is working on, but its a good general description of the noise. I hope this helps those who may have a similar issue. NOTE: a medical or automotive stethoscope always helps pinpoint rattles. Its a must have for your tool set. [YT] [/YT] |

I have switched to non-winter rim/tire set just a few weeks ago and I am pretty sure they checked alignments and other stuff, but I don't think anything was done on brakes. |
