M40i in the house....almost...

My dealer just called and said mine just arrived from SC. They are tinting windows, doing State inspection, BMW inspection, fueling up and hand detailing. Projected pick up is noon tomorrow.

I am actually really excited about this car. Coming from a 2017 GLE AMG 63s, I thought I would be disappointed about anything on the market at this price point but I wanted something that cost less to own since the AMG was burning through $10k/yr on just maintenance and wear items.

This little thing ticks all the right boxes.

I will post pics tomorrow.

I looked back and I see a post from you on 3/29 saying you had placed your order on 3/28. Did you really get your car from order to delivery in less than a week?

It's not from the factory, my dealer found it on a lot and did a dealership trade on it since it was exactly what I was looking for.

3/4 of all European orders are now being produced in South Africa's factory so US costumers are getting X3, X4, X5 and X6 now much faster. Don't know what quality will be from Africa but I hope good.

Yes, but one week from order to delivery would be quite amazing.

Technically would be possible because if I am not wrong they make car in factory from scratch to finish in two hours, but yea I agree it would be quite amazing to get car from order to delivery in one week. But waiting for X cars will be now much shorter then it used to be that's what I wanted to say.

I think that production of m40i and x3m will still remain in US but other versions will be for Europe build in Rosslyn South Africa.
But honestly I don't know that factory and don't know build quality from there. As far as I know they built some new parts of factory and brought some new machinery in 2016... New X4 I think it will be still fully produced in USA for whole world.

I really hope you are right about the m40 being built in the US. I don't want a southafrica build. Emailed my dealer just now. Hope to get a reply tomorrow.

2 hours to build...more like 30 hours or 3.5 day's when considering idle time.

Dated article, but with advances in technology over the years, G01 build times may be slightly reduced:

I accidentaly deleted whole reply. My dealer says that most of his cars will be built in Africa.

I said that because I was watching this BMW's factory tour video and they were talking that it takes around couple of hours to complete car on building stations. Probably they didn't take into account painting, welding, final inspection and so on. But they also said that this US BMW factory makes 1300 new vehicles every day in 20 hours of factory working time. That's about 1 new vehicle every minute...

It's home. The dealership made a pretty big presentation of it when I arrived. That had it hand detailed and looking good and it was on the showroom floor. Pretty classy considering they could have just left it outside.

I will get pictures later, I am going to go drive the thing.

Car is a blast to drive but a lot of cabin noise. One sound is like someone is blowing across a beer bottle and is coming from the cowl area and the other is wind noise from driver's side window.

Here are some average pictures, I will get some better ones latter.

Looks awesome in Black Sapphire and the 21s. Congrats. Maybe the noise you are experiencing will improve as the tires wear a bit. What brand did your M40i come with?

It has Bridgestone Alenza RFT which I have never heard of nor there doesn't seem to be any reviews.

BMW is known to have slightly less good wind insulation than other premium brands. But after while you get use to it, at least I did. Probably they make cars with little more wind noise to keep sporty feeling in the car.
