Just wondering if M40i owners are getting looks from others to drag race. Just something I noticed every time I take the car out.

Yes, mostly from other BMW drivers.. one time from a Mustang. I think they see that M in the back and then try to challenge you. Actually, of course it is because they see that M.

So true, it's the M badge. I guess we should feel good that they feel we are deserving of a challenge. I'm still in the break-in period, but it would be fun. Of course in a safe manner.

I think it was a Chrysler Hemi with a drag pack...the rear wheels looked huge and it didn't even look street legal. I'm sure he was pushing over 450hp

i almost ended up in a race with an Infiniti M56x last night - couldn't go for it - had to turn off, didn't want the high RPM run in break in period like that, and, as an area close to my house, I know there are too many cops watching that stretch to even think about racing someone. the m40i is rated 4.6 on 0-60 and the m56x 4.8 ah well, atleast i'm not in jail.

So, again with other BMW drivers... Is it just me? Some douche with a X6 kept tailing me and egged me on, which I ignored especially with my mother in the car. Earlier in the day, a X6M deliberately paced me and then cut me off. Yesterday, a X4M purposely blew by me, though I couldn't be certain if there was any intent there. There was also this 530i that was also tailing me closely.

In all my years with my previous X3s, I've never had it this bad with other BMW drivers. This whole "let me tailgate you from 2 ft behind and then drive up next to you" is getting so tired.

Seriously, some of the biggest blowhards I ever meet on the road are fellow BMW drivers. I hate to say it...

Correction: M4, not X4M..

maybe de-badge will solve it? When I get my car and if I have this problem I'm debadging

Hmm, I never thought about that from this angle. Perhaps it's also the newness of the model. Surely I haven't been the only one experiencing this? Or is it a New York thing? lol

I also have yet to see another M40i on the road too.

I have had plenty of thumbs ups but no invitations to race. Perhaps that will happen after the snow and ice melt, or perhaps it is the colour of my car.

I have not seen another M40i on the road as of yet. I am sure they are out there. Lots of high end vehicles in the downtown Brooklyn area but most BMWs are either M3/M4 or X5M/X6M. Lots of AMGs and RSs. I would definitely say more than BMWs.

Had a run-in with a black GLE AMG 43 on the highway. Did not work out well for him. I think he was shocked lol.

I'm sorry - my bad, I meant to write M4. It was a black M4... I got carried away with writing the X6M.

Ok, I guess it's not just me. I have the kids in the car and everyone wants a race. Many times, they are looking to see is that an M car, lol. We all know the answer to that one. I had several people compliment on the car and did not want to race.

It's not just you lol.

I am wondering if that is the BMW reasoning for the new badge placement on all new X3 M40i and upcoming X4 M40i. Will be interesting to see if this badging trend moves across the line up to other M Performance vehicles.

Going to be in area June. Just wondering if I will see many M40i in NJ or NY? Are you staying clear of those tire engulfing potholes?

I have had several "challengers", including a guy in a 335 that just refused to back down...and I'm still keeping it under 4K RPM for break in time. I think most see the M on the back and don't know if it's real or if I just put it on myself. I did take my buddy out for a spin today. He has owned a Ferrari and currently has a 997 Porsche and he was really impressed, which I take as high praise from him.

Fairly frequent here in Southern California from pretty much every brand imaginable. I had a guy in Toyota Highlander tailgate me this weekend to egg me on, and a Ford Fusion blowing past me, complete with squealing tires, after the light turned green. The hell? I'm still in the vehicle break-in period and/or hauling my kids or wife around, so drag racing isn't in my plans.

Interesting...de badging is a must then, my humble X4 always get Cayenne, Macan S and GTS daring me, I know I don’t have the power in my N20....scared will get tickets with the M40i for I won’t be so humble.

I actually debadged the "3" on the X3 in back and I added the M fender badges. I think it looks cool that way.

99% don't know or care what we are driving but the ones that do know will likely frown on the fake M. I was kind of that way when the AMG 43's came out since I had a AMG 63s. My saying was "the 43 is an AMG until it pulls up beside a 63".

Now I am basically a 43 driver but it has BMW on it. I actually feel better since my payment is 1/2 of what it used to be and the performance is 0.4 seconds in the 0-60 and 1/2 second in the 1/4 mile. My AMG never surprised me because it was supposed to be fast. The little M40 surprises me because it shouldn't sound as good as it does or run as good as it does. I am intrigued by it.

If the inside was just a little nicer and it didn't have all the cabin noise, I would actually love it.

I have a debadged M40i.
Once a guy in a Kia just tried to pass me on an highway entry. After he put him on the left lane, he was far away behind me...
Another day, at a redlight stop, a Merc AMG just stopped at my left. When the light turns green, he had a surprise as he couldn’t pass me...It was real brief as I did not want to drive above speed limit, but enough to surprise.
In fact, there are not a lot of potential challenging cars here, and as a debadged X3, a lot of people does think it’s just a common 20d...
