Great video about the break-in period

Did a little more research on break-in periods, and I found this video to be very informative.

Of course break in period is very important. My friend when he bought mercedes benz e63s if I remember correctly it was written in manual that first 2000km he can not drive above 120km/h and rpms not above 4000.

Every mechanical engineer knows that brek in period is very important and the way you need to drive at the beginning.
For instance you cannot drive with cruise control, not to drive on very steep hills, not to tow and so on. But you need to change rpms as often as possible...

Changing oil and oil filter after first 2000km won't hurt as well.

Here you go: http://www.wilmink.nl/ks/KS_inlopen_revisiemotor.pdf

But not to forget if dangerous situation appears on road you can forget on all these things. It's just a car and life is more important.

Very good video. I found the same one in my travels and was about to post it before finding this thread. Not sure I'll have the patience to reach 1200 miles but I will at least give the tires and brakes a few hundred miles to get used to their new job :-)

On my old race bike, it was broken in on a dyno tune. It is proven to be more powerful compared to other engines being babied during break in period.
I'm not saying to redline each gear before you hit 100 miles on the odo, but i'm not going to be driving under 3k rpms until 1200 miles, smh.

Directly from the owner's manual:

"Up to 1,200 miles/2,000 km

Do not exceed the maximum engine and road speed:

4,500 rpm and 100 mph/160 km/h.
Avoid full load or kickdown under all circumstances."

This is easy to achieve; I drove mine in Sport+ when I wanted to have a bit of fun during the break-in period and shifting at 4,500 RPM still provided plenty of acceleration for passing and having fun on twisty roads. The 1,200 miles goes by pretty quickly and shouldn't be a big deal for most people.
