M40i Arrived... I guess I'm the guinea pig (Badging)
Hi all-
On March 2nd, I ordered my M40i. I wanted the X3, but coming out of a 335, I wasn't willing to compromise on power-- glad I didn't. It arrived at the dealer on March 30th. Here's my build: Carbon Black Cognac Vernasca Aluminum Rhombicle Premium Executive Adaptive M HK Sound All Season RFs I ordered from a dealer out of state and received $11k off sticker (PM me if you need a referral). I flew to pick up this past weekend. Everything was great, but there's one glaring difference regarding the badging which you can see in the pic. Dealership advises this was a change that went into effect around my build time and that subsequent builds will have the different placement. I'll upload more pics of the car once I have it properly washed. |

Placement is just like the new X4 (and X2)-probably same for upcoming X5.

Oh nooooo. Our car has finished completion and is waiting to get picked up by the carrier (Ordered March 11). This is really ugly with this placement IMO. Maybe I'll just have them debadge the whole thing.

Congrats on the M40i!!
WTF with that badge placement? I don't get why they would do that at all. I know it's like that on the X2 but it looks like it needs to be on that model.

Welcome to the G01 forum, jcfla, and congratulations on it's arrival.
De-badging is straightforward if the placement isn't satisfactory for you and only takes about 20 min with good quality dental floss after gently warming with a hair dryer. Especially being new, the adhesive won't have had a chance to go through hot and cold seasonal cycles which seem to make the process a bit longer and more involved with the harder residue left behind. We de-badged the X3 logo from our G01 (leaving the M40i) and de-badged everything from our 2015 X3 LCI 35i (which was a bit more laborious c/w the G01 given the years of seasonal exposure but still easily accomplished). So, although I'm not sure what is driving BMW's reason for changing the badge positions (surely something must be), it is a very easy fix so not to worry. Enjoy your new G01! |

Hmmm, interesting placement of the new badging for sure. Would be cool if it included the M Sport steering wheel too! Sorry couldn't resist... too easy lol.

I ordered mine de-badged. Hope to get next week. That said, I think I prefer it down low, in the new position.

What’s that second rear badge on the i30 in the updated configurator? Looks like maybe “xdrivei30”, but it’s the same for the rear drive. That could be an oversight though.
I really don’t care at all for my single high mounted “X3” badge. All the more reason here to remove it rather than lowering and adding an “i30” opposite.

Maybe the thought it to leave the more prominent area 'clean' other than the BMW logo?

Mine was ordered 2/26, but it went to production 3/1 or 3/2 Must have been a week or so before the switch, for which I am glad.

Wouldn't go there, mjdth. The removal process damages the adhesive so it'll be a hassle down the road as they loosen or sag. Easy to remove, but if you want them back in a different position, just order some new ones and place them where you want. I'm attaching the process we used to debadge our G01 X3 from the back left rear, as well as all of the badges on our 2015 LCI X3 35i. No way I would even try to re-apply.

Seriously, what is this crap... you'd think they'd just wait until the 2019 models to make such a change - but to change it MY? That's just dumb and it looks weird to me. I'm used to the badges being on the same level as the roundel.

I quite liked it...
I sort of hope my car comes like that but based on some comments above, and my end of Feb build, I'm assuming I'll have them up top. Hopefully I'll know in a week as it's in dealer prep now.

Relatively easy as others have said. 3M produce double sided automotive tape which you could use to reattach the badges also. I would probably buy new badges which would come with adhesive already.
