Best way to remote-close moon-roof

I tried this before from the fob and had to open everything first before I could close everything. You press and hold the lock button on the fob right? If it is raining what is the quickest way to close the moonroof? Does the connected app do it too?

Just tried it again......easy enough to open everything (in the rain) but I had to go downstairs and stand next to the vehicle to get the fob to close everything. Had fun wiping everything down inside after that.

The app is worthless in this regard.

You don’t have to open and then close.
When I exit the car, as I’m walking away I lock the car with fob... and then press again and hold. The windows go up first and THEN the sunroof closes.

Yeah I believe that. Saw it on the BMW videos. The problem was I had forgotten, it started raining, I looked out my window and saw the moonroof cracked. I don't think at that point there is a solution. My fob was out of proximity/near-field range but I was able to open everything by holding the unlock, but it would not respond to the sustained lock button depression. It would respond to the one press of the lock button (and fold in the mirrors) but would not close up the windows/moonroof. After going down to within fob proximity range of the sensors I was able to close up everything with the sustain press of the fob lock button.

That rain is going to turn into a huge 3 day snowstorm BTW.

You are brave to leave it open and walk away. The instant I do that, I expect some pigeon to leave me a present on my upholstery.

Just curious if someone has some more technical details on the new design of the panoramic sunroof. My dealer told me this is the first BMW with the new design. I was told they have reduced the weight, but I also noticed that the mesh fabric is different from the G30. And the G30 roof slides onder the rear glass panel, but in the G01 is slides on to the rear glass panel.

Does the G01 have the option of ventilating position by pressing the button in the middle once?

In case it has, is there any way to activate this mode remotely, or you just have to keep pressed the remote control button the exact time in order to put the roof in this position manually?

No it’s in the vehicle settings:

Vehicle settings > doors/keys > automatic roof closing

I was curious about this and checked my settings. No such option exists in the settings. This may not be available in other areas but not in the U.S.

A more fundamental question is why is it a moonroof in the US but a sunroof everywhere else?

Technically, a sunroof is sealable hole in the roof of a vehicle that can let in the sun. A moonroof is a sealable hole in the roof of a vehicle that can let in the sun, but specifically covered by glass/plexiglass.

So ANY moonroof can also be classed as a sunroof. But not vise versa.

Meaning everyone started by calling them sunroofs. But as designers started putting glass in them, some places decided to rename them, while others just kept the old name.

Lol...

I think I prefer moonroof... I like to think of it as a viewing glass to the stars... an observatory!

Yes to the first question. Not sure about the second...

We used to use the term, sunroof. They generally just popped up, or tilted, though. When they started sliding back and fully opening, they called them moon roofs. Don't know why, but they were two different things.
