Thoughts on Canadian BSM 1M?

Hi Everyone,

I thought I would try to get some sage advice/thoughts about this vehicle. I'm in Michigan, so I would have to go through the process of importing this vehicle. I've had a little bit of conversation with nachob to get his thoughts on that process. I've also tried to read up on it as much as possible.

What I've learned so far: it can be fairly easy...or it can be a bit more difficult. Maybe depends on the dealership assistance.

Aside from that, my wife and I are drawn to the potentially modest price point in USD. Granted, there would be some fees that come along with this (2.5% tax being one). I might be able to get them to come down a touch more - maybe $41K-$42K.

Thoughts on this price point?

Also, I see that it has a Dinan upgrade. Should I be nervous about this in any way? The Carfax equivalent that I have for the vehicle shows no mechanical issues in the past.

The other tricky part is that I would have to sell my 2012 135i M-Sport to free up some money (anyone interested in a 2012 135i M-Sport?!?)

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if this is all worth it! My wife may divorce me for trying to pull this off....

Thanks All for any input!

I am local to this vehicle so if you need someone to check it out and give you some idea first hand, send me a PM and we can figure it out.

I extended the same courtesy to nachob when he was hunting for his 1M here in Toronto.

That 1M with Dinan upgrades looks like a great deal.

I might have to start buying up all the remaining 1M's in Canada so they stop leaving to the States.

Yeah I'm sorry! Feel a little bad about it. It's cool for us because you guys get the German KM only speedo. Love it, but yes I do feel a little bad still.

feel free to PM me if you have any questions, but you're all set if you already talked to nachob. He's the hero this forum needs.

I just did it a few weeks ago, and it was painless for me. I wouldn't pay until you have all of your boxes checked. I recommend getting a corrosion inspection done as well. You can get the car into the US with a Canadian Temp tag, although you will be fully puckered the whole way because they just use a windshield sticker. I made it from BMW of Toronto to DC without any issues. (I wouldn't bank on getting them down to 41k.) My car had a reserve on it at 47k.

I wonder how many are now left in Canada. With only 220 to begin with we might be under 200 by now.

The best estimate would be to pull the vehicle history reports for each car and see where they were last registered. The cost to get the reports is US$100.

I created a poll a while ago to see if people were interested in sharing the cost to do the same for the 750 US cars to get number of salvage titles, avg. number of owners, etc. The interest shown was tepid at best.

I'd guess much lower than 150 with export and totaled cars.

Only 40 BSMs were produced for Canada. Rarest of them all.

Congrats, I eyed this before buying a VO 1M. Sounds like you got a great deal.

No worries! Enjoy it! It's a beast that's for sure with all those Dinan goodies.

Thanks guys! Looking forward to being part of the community here. Does anyone know of anyone other 1M guys in the Palm Beach County area? I spotted a BSM at cars and coffee last weekend but couldn't find the owner before I left.

Will definitely post some pictures when I pick it up in the next few weeks.

I'm in Tampa, however, planning a transfer to Jupiter. Welcome to 1M ownership awesomeness
