Pickup Today - Haven't researched warranty changes
I'm picking up the car today and just not realized that BMW changed their warranty system so it's not all included. Is it worth upgrading to an improved warranty package or is it a waste of money like all other things sold at the dealer during the checkout process?

It's not warranty- rather maintenance. And, yes, I think it's a waste of money (for me, on a leased car).

biggest difference is brakes - do you want to prepay for brakes or pay later?
the question is - how long will the M sport brakes last on the M40i? I did not add any maintenance coverage and hope I don't regret it.

The M brakes on my M3 were great and certainly outlasted any warranty. Same for my Z4. In fact, generally BMW brakes have been great. However, the brakes on my F34 335 GT needed to be replaced after about 35,000 miles. I was not impressed. I do not know if it is a matter of poor quality or that the automatic transmission puts a lot more stress on the brakes.
To say the least, I will be watching as these brakes are not covered by the 4 year maintenance plan. |

They were not worn out as much as rusted. Apparently I did not drive it enough. 56,000 km over 4 years. Since it was a lease I paid to replace rather than have BMW charge me more and dump it at the auction with the old brakes. A friend of mine bought it from the dealer after I introduced them. The dealer did not even bother to wash the car or put a full tank in. Needless to say my fiend was not impressed and will not have anything to do with the dealer again.
