IIHS Crash Test and Rating

Seems that the collective wisdom that the full suite of safety features should be standard was adopted by the IIHS. Glad I got them all. Now to decode the anti-dazzle high beams...

I'm wondering why IIHS is saying you need the Driving Assistance Plus Package, since it says you just need the optional Frontal Collision Warning with Extended Collision Mitigation.

http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/veh...-door-suv/2018

According to this article about it, you only need the regular Driving Assistance Package since Frontal Collision Warning w/City Collision Mitigation works up to the 25 mph test limit.

Quote:
To get the TSP+ award from the IIHS, a vehicle must earn either an Advanced or Superior rating in the front crash prevention category. When equipped with the Driving Assistance Package, which comes with Frontal Collision Warning with City Collision Mitigation, the 2018 X3 avoided a collision in both the low-speed 12 mph and high-speed 25 mph tests. The results were the same with the X3’s Driving Assistance Plus package, with Frontal Collision Warning with Extended Collision Mitigation.
The Driving Assistance Plus package expands the City Collision Mitigation to include highway speeds which don't appear to be part of the IIHS test.

Knew the Iconic Adaptive LEDs would get the highest headlight rating! It was the same case with the newest 5-Series; Iconic headlights got a Good rating while the regular LEDs were barely better than some halogens.

More reason folks should highly consider the Executive package!

Kinda great to see that the BMW X3 is now the highest-rated vehicle in the Midsize Luxury SUV category from the IIHS! Even better is how it beat out the new Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60 For overall safety.

Well, the Macan hasn't been tested by the IIHS, so it's not ranked.

http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/v/c...ze-luxury-suvs

You could infer results that since the Macan was built on the old Volkswagen MLB platform, that the previous-generation Q5's results show a good glimpse into the Macan's potential crashworthiness.

With Q5s built after January 2015, it got a Good overall rating on moderate overlap, small driver-side overlap, and side impact; however if you read into the results, it actually got an Acceptable for structural integrity rating in the small overlap test. The new Q5 built on the MLB Evo platform has the same issue: Good overall rating for small driver-side overlap crash, but technically an Acceptable rating for structural integrity.

The G01 X3 gets a Good rating for each category AND each metric within each category.
