Don't change Spark Plugs with low fuel
Just an FYI I had changed my plugs on my 2014 335i yesterday with Spark Plugs picked up from my local BMW dealer. I check all plugs before I swapped them out and gap was good and no sign of damage.
After placing new plugs in I got a misfire on Cylinder 6 and 2, with multiple misfire in combustion codes all over the place. Well, I put the old plugs back in and no misfire. So I was determined to get these new plugs in to finish my maintenance. Once I put the new plugs back in, hoping it would have been an over torque or under torque the new plugs didn't work again. Well I am at 10 miles to empty and freaking out now. So I went to BMW today to get the new plugs and filled the BMW up with a gas can to a quarter of a tank and boom with the replacement plugs I got today everything is working now. I highly doubt I got two faulty plugs at one time and believe the low gas was in limp mode causing not enough combustion in Cylinder 6 and 2. The reason I believe this is because Spark Plug 6 had NO sign of igniting, no burn nothing. Looked clean like it was never installed. I did research others have had low fuel and misfire codes under WOT because of this. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing a misfire with low gas during a spark plug change, get some gas! *Still what boggles me is why did the old plugs still work once I put them back in. Highly doubt this had anything to do with the amount of gas in your tank that actually might one of the most farfetched things ive read on a forum in a long time.
Most likely was user error in the form of not seating the coils properly onto the plugs when you installed them and then when you put the old ones back in you seated the coils firmly onto the plugs and had no issues. |
