Personally, I think the S5 sportback looks about as nice as the BMW 5 series GT.
In other words, it's fucking hideous. I'd rather take the bus. If it was a choice between the S5 coupe or the 4 series coupe, then it'd be a different matter. |

Absolutely love both cars and was a toss up for me between the same two.
Ended up with the 440i GC due to the lower interest rate and higher discount, meaning I could get more options on the car. Pros and cons for the BMW from my perspective: -cheaper if you're financing -it's rwd so can have some fun if you want to and it drives better if you're really into pushing it hard -still a really good car -MPPSK sounds better than the S5 as far as I've heard them -the Audi interior is leaps ahead of the current BMW imo -Quattro means you can step on it without traction light annoying you even in the wet They're both really nice cars that look amazing so the biggest factor for me is the price, the interior and the 4WD vs 2WD. Either one of these would not disappoint you! |

Would be a very tough call at the same spec and price.
Looks like the BMW is more fully loaded than the S5 and cheaper to boot. Suspect that the B58 is a more charismatic engine than the V6 in the Audi. I'd prefer RWD and traction in the 440i is excellent, brilliantly controllable through the right pedal. My choice would still be 440i, but I am sure that the S5 would be a great car too. You need to drive both, on the same roads.

Having been through exactly the same thing i went with the bmw (3 touring vs s4). The audi is nicer inside, although the merino options really improve the bmw and with leather dash and merino seats the bmw feels better quality, just not as modern.
Otherwise imo the bmws look better, drive better and with mppsk are quicker and sound better, plus they are cheaper, quite a bit on finance. Not sure if those are stock cars but the options on the bmw are not the ones id go with for the money. |

The 440i every time (coming from a 440i owner) and if you find the power and sound lacking, you can always spend £1750 on the MPPS kit, which then matches the S5 for power I think
I test drove the 250hp 2L petrol Quattro version of the A5 when I was considering both cars and found my wife's Fiesta more engaging and fun to drive - a very dull but capable car, the A5 Some folks go on about the wonder of Audi interiors, which are superior to BMWs at this level of car, admittedly. However if it's driving, RWD and looks which matter to you, then I think the beemer wins hands down

I tend not to buy models towards the end of their life as they date very quickly. The F3x is quite long in the tooth, even if the coupe is going to drag on a bit longer than the saloon, the launch of the G20 will make it look rather old. So for me it would depend on how long you plan to keep the car. 2 years or less, I would probably still go for the BMW. Any more I would favour the Audi.
This assumes that you like them equally when you drive them. |

The 4 Series came out in 2013 I believe, and while you’re right that production will continue for 2 more years, the launch of the G2x will make it look rather dated in my view, just as the E92 felt out of place when it was sold alongside the F30.

Buy the car you prefer, go and drive both. The fact that the g20 is coming doesn't really mean anything. Im sure there will be things about the current f3x which you or I prefer, including the great deals available on them because they are end of lifecycle.

Is there any possibility that you will buy the car at the end of the term? Seems like the BMW would be cheaper.
The A5 SB has been one of my favourite Audis for looks, but can't help thinking that they moved it on too little with the new model. Meaning that it will age relatively quickly for an Audi. The money and the spec still would sway me to the beemer. But the drive would settle it one way or the other.

Not that I'm biased but I'd take a well specced 440i GC over a S5 any day even if the monthlies were the same. The fact that the 440i is much cheaper makes it a no brainer to me.

If you're not a BMW fanboy (like me) then the S5 is the newer and slightly more desirable car currently. |

I do like the S5 sportback, and is something I would consider having myself. The front end of the car puts me off though. It just looks really bland, it sits too high and I don't like all the horizontal lines for the grille. I wonder if you could fit a RS5 grille? Really like the back end though.
Interior wise, i've only seen pictures but i don't get what all the fuss is about the Audi A4/A5. Looks nice enough, fresher than the F3x but nothing special - maybe it's different in person. Would be interested to hear your opinions if you do drive them both. Nice back!

I’m also considering the S5 sport back amongst others!
I really don’t know what I want I’m not considering the 4GC, purely because I want something different and really don’t want to look at exactly the same dash for another 3-4 years!! Which is a shame, because the 440i GC would otherwise be top of my list I’ve only driven the S5 coupe so far, which I thought was good! How different the sport back will be I don’t know what an extra 50mm in the wheel base will do?? As a real curve ball, after a drive in the Jaguar XE S ( also good, great sound, combination of exhaust, 6 cylinders and supercharger) I drove an F Pace with the same engine. Obviously not as sharp as the XE, but really impressive. Also XE S is being discontinued!! Also still trying to get a drive in an X3 M40i So as you can see, I’m in a very confused place at the moment. PCP ends in December, so am considering options to wait for the G20???
