2012 328i: North Carolina to Central New Jersey in ONE tank of gas (570 miles)!

I took a road trip this past weekend filling up the gas tank near Raleigh, NC and driving all the way to central NJ and to work this morning in that single tank of gas! A whopping 570 miles! And I still had a gallon left when I filled up on the way to work this morning.

The car had with two people, a suitcase and some miscellaneous stuff in the trunk (approx total cargo weight about 350 pounds). Here is the breakdown of the MPH during the trip:

1) 50% of the drive at 75-79 MPH
2) 30% at 70-75 MPH
3) 10% at 65-70 MPH
4) 10% at or under 60 MPH

All of this while easily providing gobs of power as needed for a few spurts of spirited driving throughout the 9 h journey.

I don't care about the complaints people have about the N20 motor. To me, it is a marvel of engineering!

EDIT: I forgot to mention a 30 min major slowdown (<20 mph) near Fredericksburg and then another 10 min slowdown in PA. Despite this, I got 39.7 MPG on the tank (calculated manually, not car's computer).

Hate to brag, but combined city-highway driving (25%-75%) gets me around 640 miles on a tank or roughly 44 miles per gallon. I have maxed her out at 46 mpg driving highway only. But that is diesel-to-gas comparison. Where diesel shines in fuel economy, it lack in power - any Prius or Civic can outrun my 328d.

Nice. This is the first time I was able to go that much on one tank. I have gone 500+ but not 550+ if I remember correctly.

Yeah, thats great. The 328 is king of the highway far as I'm concerned in terms of combination of power and excellent MPG.

I let the robot run the car its pretty consistent at getting high mileage at speed. Only place that can kill your MPG is the DC ring road if you hit it at the wrong time of day.

True..I let the computer do most of the driving. Your post reminds me that I spent 30 min in a major slowdown (<20 mph) near Fredericksburg and then another 10 min slowdown in PA. Considering this, the 39.7 MPG is even more impressive.
