Thoughts on Pilot Sport 4S on M40i
I’ve had Pilot Sport 4Ss installed on my M40i for a few weeks and am happy to report that they feel very good and are, I think, a significant improvement over the Alenzas (on 21” wheels) and Yokohamas (on 19” wheels).
By far the most noticeable difference is how responsive the tires feel — even on the M40i, they impart that “telepathic” feel that I’ve always associated with Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I think that arises from a combination of precise steering and instantaneous reaction from the tires. This is noticeable even when I’m driving below 8/10ths, and it feels great. I suspect ultimate grip is probably materially improved, but honestly did not have the opportunity to push the Alenzas or Yokohamas hard enough to say for sure. I can say that AWD + grip means that this thing accelerates through corners in a way that my m235i just can’t, and the difference there is large. All that said, even with pilot sport 4Ss, I don’t think this quite feels as good in the corners as the GLC43. The M40i is a much better all around package, in my view, and represents a much better mixture of ride quality + handling, but if I was only concerned about fun in corners, I still think the GLC43 wins. |

I am on my second set of Pilot Sports 4Ss on my Z4M roadster. I like the grip, quiet operation, and smooth ride. With 500+ HP, they don’t last long - they actually howl under hard acceleration - but for 18”, they were priced competitively.

I had them on my E92 M3 Competition package (19"). Great grip, quiet and the ride was good.
I hope that when the Bridgerocks are done there will be a Michelin 4S in 21" |

Long story, but 3 test drives on 21” and then bought with 19". Now have 19" wheels with winter tires (switched to Pirelli Scorpions from Yokohamas) and a second 20" set with 4Ss.
