BMW M2 Competition vs Tuned M2 (Dinan s2)

Hello,

Trying to get some info from you guys so I can come to a decision.

I was really looking forward to the M2 competition but from what I've seen, I'm not crazy about it. Just the muffler that sticks out from the sides and back alone is a big reason I wouldn't get one, I think it looks noticeably worse than my 2018 M2 LCI with the M performance exhaust. I'm not crazy about the front grilles either, I think the car looks good overall but the M2 LCI with either the standard exhaust or M performance exhaust looks better IMO.

I'm basically considering either getting the M2 competition when it comes out (I'd have to change the exhaust system to something that sounds as good or better and that gets rid of the protruding muffler) or just keep my M2 LCI for another 2-3 years at least and get the Dinan S2 package on it.

What are people's thoughts on the S2 package from Dinan for the M2? Upgrading the suspension on the M2 is pretty important to me, I want an improved suspension that not only improves handling, grip and overall performance but also improves ride comfort from the standard suspension. Is there such a thing?

Looking for suggestions, max I'd spend is maybe 10k including installation in which I'd keep the car for another 2-3 years until the next generation M2 competition comes out. That or I'd give in to temptation and get the M2 competition if I could do something about that exhaust/muffler. I have a family member who wants to buy my M2 off me which would allow me to get the competition version.

Anyways, thanks for reading and looking forward to any suggestions!

Much more tuning potential with the Competition. The extra cooling on the Competition is the main draw for me.

Have you seen the youtube video review from TheSmokingTire? It was a review specific to the Dinan S2.

An S2 on our M2s gives you 101 hp max and 91 hp peak. It is currently around $10K. That would give you more hp than an M2 Competition. It probably would be cheaper than selling your current M2 and buying an M2C.

The down fall is that it doesn’t look like an M2C if that is important to you.

Really not a fan of Dinan using piggyback tunes.

I agree it's an eyesore but that's just the giant stock can. I'm sure most aftermarket exhaust brands and the official MPE will not use a giant muffler that sticks out like that.

If I were you I would sell your car and get the Comp. It's going to be a totally different animal than the current M2 and doing something as small as just buying a tune for it will transform it into something that can easily keep up with a Dinan P2/S2 N55.

Everyone keeps mentioning the engine, but the suspension upgrade is were the S2 package has the advantage over the M2C IMO. The M2C has a slightly upgraded suspension over the current M2, but the Dinan S2 has a full coil-over setup, and does ride better.

Thanks for your thoughts/suggestions. If there is a viable exhaust/muffler option for the M2c that takes care of that issue then that would swing me towards getting it. I suppose I'll have to wait and see what's out there when the car comes out.

Has anyone done the Dinan coilover suspension on their M2? Any thoughts how it compares to stock?

Why wouldn't you just go with the M performance 2-way coilovers?

Agreed, and they’re height, rebound and compression adjustable (3-way).

All those complications (resale, daily driveability...etc) for $10k extra...

Just get a Comp and get it over with. Your mental health will be better too as you won't need to race every M2C you see on the road just try to prove a point that your $10k mod was well spent

Hell when that S55 is flashed you won't stand a chance

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, leaning towards just getting the M2 comp. I'm sure there will be an M performance exhaust for this car with a better looking muffler or some other after market exhaust that will do it.

A modified M2 would likely take a bigger hit at resale then a comp too though
