subwoofer airspace

HI! first post. I have an 03 Z4 with the 10 speaker audio system. Does anyone know the airspace volume of the subwoofer compartments? I just received a pair of Elemental Designs 7 inch subwoofers (ordered after reading great reviews and for a small air*******. I had planned to make custom boxes extending the subwoofer compartments volume, but wouldn't it make sense to KNOW what the original volume was first. They may just bolt in with a larger hole.

Thanks in advance.

Each box is 10L. With a spacer it will be a very tight fit since the OE grill has a concave face that will get in the way of the cone.

Good luck and keep us posted how it goes!

Update... I replaced everything. The Elemental Designs subs do not sound very good. The impact is more obvious, but the stock subs sounded better in the lower octaves. I added a Premier head unit in a custom dash extension below the AC controls, MB Quart replacements for all the other speakers, Boston Acoustics amp for the mids and highs, and a TMA 500x1 amp for the subs. Everything is 1000 times better except the lower octaves. I am a musician and sound quality nut with a recording studio in my basement.

Next I'm going to try some MA Audio 8's that I have lying around. I doubt they will be much better, but they are already owned so why not.

update part II.... after removing one of the drivers the sound improved. They must have been wired out of phase with each other. Still not as good as hoped.

i tried that too

with a JL 6" sub.. didn't work at all.. in the end, had to drop a JL ported box with a 10" sub in the trunk.

I tried to fit Tang Band W8-740 in each by making a new baffle but it was too deep. I then fit a pair of Tang Band W6-1139SI's in behind each seat(4 total), but it sounded like dookie(powered by 2 channels of an Alpine PDX4.150). Finally put a JL 8W7 in the trunk and it sounds great but the lid the top folds into rattles like crazy when the top is up. I might try dynamat on top of it to see if that helps.

I ended up going with a 10" Infiniti in the trunk.

In hindsight I would stay with stock though

dun bother with the factory sub location... is useless.. as u can see from the above posts..

go with a seal or ported box instead.. but when the tops goes down... bass still lacks..
