Front/Rear Washer Pump Question

Currently my washer fluid level warning light is on, however there is enough in the tank that I can still utilize the front windshield washers. When I activate the rear, nothing happens - no pump sound that I can notice.

Does anyone know if this is an "intelligent" feature to keep from running the pump dry? Or maybe when there is low fluid, none is available towards the rear based on how the tank is designed?

I'll have a chance to pick up some fluid today, but wanted to see if anyone was familiar with this.

To answer my own question, it looks like the flow to the rear "container" runs out first.
