Exclamation Car running extremely rough in rain.

Every time it pours down rain and I drive my car, It begins to get extremely loud and it seems that the downpipe rattles up against the car, And no this isn't because of my modifications as the car still does this bone stock. What could be the issue here, Any ideas??

Try this on your spark plug wires:

Do you have an intake or aftermarket air filter? Could be your MAF.

Or do you still have your engine cover or have you had work done on your spark plugs or ignition coils? It could be water getting into your ignition coils.

Engine is stock. Previously had Dinan Sport but removed.
I took it to dealer last time and they replaced the spark plugs.
They noted moisture is collecting in the charge air cooler.
They also hinted that this is normal but I find it ridiculous to believe that a german luxury car cannot be driven aggressively in the rain. I usually don't drive my car in the rain or snow but should not have to worry if i do.

It's more likely the age of the plug wires causing the problem. The insulation loses its effectiveness when exposed to engine heat for a few years. The wire dryer spray I linked to will help if that's the problem. Getting new plug wires is an option too.

Are you telling us that you have not had this problem checked out by a responsible dealer/shop since you originally posted the problem on May 8 this year? Almost 6 months ago?

They checked it out and said they couldn't reprobate the issue, Well now I guess we will know what went wrong soon.

You're pretty sure the motor seized? If it's seized, then it shouldn't turn over. Don't keep trying? Let us know. Very interesting...

While that may be true on some vehicles. Most newer vehicles use coil-on-plug systems. Doing away with the need of plug wires. My 06 E90 didn't have wires. The f30 doesn't either.

Very unusual problem. If the motor seized, the root cause would be very valuable for this forum. OP, please update when you can.

I'm going from experience with previous cars. My BMW is way too low in mileage for me to have even given a thought to plug replacement or much of anything beyond oil and filter changes.
OP, I can't think of anything that would cause a seized engine that's related to wet weather.

Hydrolock? Or does that not fall under the 'seized engine' umbrella.

Water in the air intake will make the engine run bad, and might even cause it to shut down, but it wouldn't likely cause it to seize. That's usually from blown bearings, a thrown rod, broken timing chain or other major damage to the engine. Enough water into cylinders could cause bent rods, but I doubt if rain getting into the air intake could cause that. Driving through three feet of water might.

It's been monsoon after monsoon here in PA, and PA is now one of the top ten states in flooded vehicles in the US, but hurricane Florence added 107,000 flooded vehicles in the Carolinas, where the OP lives.

Maybe he drove through something he shouldn't have. As they say around here, "turn around, don't drown".

Semantics I guess. The delineation between seized, blown etc. is not very well observed, so I guess it all counts. Either way though, like you said, I can't think of anything other than substantial amounts of water in the air intake that would cause an engine to run poorly in the wet. I'm also not totally convinced that the bad running when wet issue is even tied to the engine's death at all. We'll see whenever we learn what happened.

Funny enough, my car would do the same thing when it rained in the last few months... My motor seized on Friday out of nowhere. Just stalled while I was pulling into a parking space and turned off... Verified that it's seized because I put a breaker bar on the crank it will not budge at all.

Waiting to hear back from the dealer... From what I've read BMW will not cover this.
