BMW Performance Exhaust FYI
I posted here about a month ago after my car was rear ended. I was awarded the opportunity to upgrade so I was asking questions and opinions. To those who responded, thank you for your insight.
The PE was the way to go from everything I read, but the cost was a little more than I really wanted to spend, $1100-$1300. Then a thread popped up stating that it was discontinued and people were confirming it, so I was ready to pull the trigger on a Remus after getting some good reviews about it and the price was more in my range at $800. Last Sunday for some reason I started looking for the p.e. again and found some websites after google searching 18-10-2-208-794. The first page of results were the standard aftermarket shops we all look at. After those the websites turned out to be blanket websites for BMW dealerships with not much info about who or where they are and their prices vary considerably. The lowest price I found was at $927. That dealership was about an hour away from me, but I called them and they said they had several in stock for pick up that day. I ended up going to my local dealership which is 5 minutes from my office and they priced matched and then even dropped it down to $875.00 after I asked nicely. So they are out there in some capacity. More so for the 92/93 guys it seems though. Hopefully this may help someone. Attached pictures are my p.e. that I picked up today and I'm installing tomorrow after work and a screen shot of the availability from the getbmwparts.com web site. My best advice is do the google search I mentioned earlier. |

Nothing like the clean refined sound of the PE, you'll be happy you went with it. Will put a smile on your face everytime you take engine to redline.

I put it on this evening and I was shocked by how mellow it is. On all the youtube videos it seems to be much louder. I know it will get a little louder as it breaks in though. No other way to put it, but I love it. It's what the car should have come stock with.

It might be louder because they may have removed their secondaries. PE doesn't come with a resonator correct?

I'll try searching again, but maybe the e92/93 PE is all that's left anywhere. Anyway, congrats on finding one! |

Stupid question: Why are the tips staggered like that? Is it just to follow the contour of the bumper?
I have an E91 and am going to try hacking an E92 PE onto it. From what I've read, the E92 will stick out an extra inch and so that stagger may become more pronounced than I'm looking for. Good excuse for new tips I guess!

Wingnutts BIGGNS I have the coupe PE on my sedan. The staggering of the tips appears to be the same on both mufflers, but there is 1.5" more pipe between the coupe muffler and tips than my stock unit. It looks sort of funny sticking passed the bumper, but I haven't taken the time yet to chop and clamp.
The muffler ensures that the pipes would look funny if they weren't staggered. Recall the stock muffler is staggered as well. I can take some pictures if you guys are interested. My little Rat Terrier is literally the best dog ever but I miss having a cat around.

I've been researching a little and now leaning toward some obnoxious 4 inch tips lol. I prefer black over chrome too. PM me if anyone is selling or has any recommendations. Thanks!

has anyone considered getting catted AFE headers or catless Supersprint racing headers for roughly the same price as the PE?
if you go for the PE, I would replace the secondaries with two vibrant resonators. I have heard this setup before and it sounds absolutely amazing. my issue with the N52 exhaust system in general is the stock exhaust manifold. it is a very shit design and really the only negative aspect of the exhaust system as a whole. the cat-back itself, with the exception of the restrictive OEM muffler is actually quite well designed, especially the resonator. |

Can't pass smog/visual inspection with headers.

Where I live, the AFE catted headers won't pass the visual inspection. I could get away with an N53 exhaust manifold, probably.
