Exhaust Cutout?

So I learned today there is a thing called Exhaust cutout.

I thought it was something for the supercars. (exhaust sound changes when you put into sport mode)

Anyways, it sounds louder than I want when open but I can close it whenever I want.

I am curious if it falls into Must have items for ricers?

I want it to open when driving around the highway or canyons not in the city to attract some attentions

Muffler alone won't change the performance anyways and it will probably look the same so I think this is a better option? what do you think?

yeah I don't know. If I change the muffler, it can still be seen as 'ricey' since it's 3 series and I can't change that. If I get the cutout, I can just open when I go driving for fun. It's like throwing a good music to add more fun.
I think I should get it.

Isn't it weird people say 'you shouldn't care what people think' but you should still care what people think?

Who said 3 series with exhaust is ricey? I6 NA has really good engine tone and exhaust note if done properly. Bmw performance exhaust with 2nd cat delete

From my experience exhaust cutout valves can leak slightly making your car sound like it's old and busted. I also wouldn't want my exhaust gasses pouring out underneath my car. Just pony up and purchase a real exhaust system if you're concerned with sound. There is no one in the world that would think the BMW Performance Exhaust is "ricey." If one knows the term "ricey," he/she knows that the PE isn't. That said, some people think all cars should be silent. To each his own. They don't care about performance cars so I'm not concerned with their thoughts regarding them.

It will be like a muffler delete (drone present) i found it loud with headers and secondaries deleted, also noticed low end torque losses due to lack of backpressure, i was skeptical about adaptations (not sure if these cars adapt to exhaust). If you wanna do it, get some cutouts with good qualities not the chinese ones on amazon. Go for something like summit racing because the lower priced ones will break and leak with time

I say go for what you like. Ignore the haters.

Fwiw, I had a "quality" cutout that leaked. This was 13 years ago though.. not sure how much has changed since then regarding cutouts.

all the cutouts leak, unless they're old school bolt on a plate style.

I actually really like mine. It keeps my wife happy as well. I also deleted my resenator to a y-pipe. Performance is negitavely affected when open however. Gets a kick at meets.

I always wanted to hack the built in "sport mode" on the N52 DMEs to enable an electric cutout with the press of a button. Basically, the 330i already has this - the exhaust flap. But my willingness to make the E90 loud is muted, and my time to work on the E30 is limited.. Maybe someday.

I have had aspirations to re-purpose the little button on the steering wheel for speech input that my car doesn't support so that it would open up some cutouts.
