No Respect For the M2C?!

As I read through the M2 department on the forum it seems no one is giving respect to the unibrow M2C. And everyone (most) keep saying I’d still buy the M2.. doesn’t make sense to me really. Is everyone still hung up on the M2 being the better car?

For $4400 bucks you get a real M Engine. with more HP. Better.
Better brakes. Better.
Actual M seats. Better.
Okay so it weighs more than the M2... get the CF roof from BMW Performace and don’t have a passenger. Boom 150-200Ibs saved. Oh and fill the gas tank up to 1/4-1/2. Moving on.
Gloss Black Unibrow kidney grill. Well now it comes in black so you don’t have to go out and replace your chrome kidney grill to look like the M2C. And okay it’s one piece. Distinct to the car and sets it apart from all the other BMWs. Classic. Along with the competition name.

Seems for $4400 you get a lot more and no one at the moment is giving any respect to the M2C. I’m in the market right now and I’ve decided to wait for the M2C, just seems like common sense. Or am I wrong? What’s everyone’s opinion on the matter?

When you read a comment like that look to the left and see what vehicle they own. 9 times out of 10 they own a base M2. Same sh*t happened to M3/M4 owners when the Comp pack showed up two years late. Base owners were being protective of their cars.

In the coming months remaining N55 M2 inventory will be more and more discounted. If someone wants one they can buy one. I personally wouldn’t touch a base M2.

Just let them be to have their base M2 section.

The car hasn’t even been magazine tested so it’s hard to give a lot of respect to any car until we see the performance numbers relative to its competition or the car it replaces. That said it’s going to be a better performer than the M2LCI and it’s a matter of how much better it is because it’s also fairly expensive now relative to its MB and Audi rivals.

I’ve been on auto enthusiast forums going back to the 90’s from Honda, DSM, Subaru, VW, Ford, Toyota, etc. and one common theme is that current owners of a model alway hate on the refresh or replacement even if the updated car is universally considered better. What’s going on here is not a new phenomenon. I really wouldn’t put a lot of stock into the opinions of current M2 owners in regards to the M2C.

This post is no better than what the OP was complaining about. The outgoing M2 is not a base model and you know that.

The same comments can be applied to the OG M2.

I was initially resistant to the new grill and I still like the LCI front end better overall, but the more I look at pics of the Comp, it's growing on me.

I'd be happy to have either model. I almost bought an LCI 2 months ago, but the timing didn't work out for me. I'll end up with a Comp because that's the current model when I am ready to buy next year.

While there are some haters, I think there are a lot of people "over there" who do respect both models.
That said, you have childish haters on both sides. If I hear one more person say "Civic M2", I'm gonna lose it. It's pointlessly dismissive, disrespectful, and frankly monumentally immature.

Rodger, I’ve been looking to add another BMW to the garage this summer. The last few weeks I’ve been keeping up on the forum chatter and people’s options about both cars. It just seems there’s less love for the M2C right out the gate. Despite the lack of love I think I’m still going to wait for the M2C. Still #1 on the list at the local dealer!

I test drove the M2 and it’s still stitting on the showroom floor at the local dealership. White, manual, with some upgrades out the door for $56K. I loved the car! Absolutely loved it but knowing the M2C is coming I just couldn’t pull the trigger. And there was just something about the M2 seats... they were just boring

Typical reaction when new M car comes out. It is probably the best M in the current lineup. 500hp @ 60k in a compact rwd chassis with bbk and cooling.

Can't wait for reviews to come out!

I think that you are not wrong about overall value. Many people are stretching their budget to buy an entry level M car. If they could pick up a brand new 2018 LCI OG M2 with a $4,000. discount as I was offered, then that saves them $8,400. That is nothing to sneeze at. Personally I like all the goodies that will be standard on the M2C but for some they would rather have the $8,400. in their pocket to pay for trips, gas and insurance.

Similar but opposite boat. My configured M4 is over 12k more than my configured M2 Competition. I don’t see the extra value, also would much prefer the smaller package and M2 driving dynamics with the S55. Weirdly I would rather pay up for M4 if the M2 Competition didn't exist.

Don't worry, once the M2 CS or whatever next M2 model is released, they will start calling the M2 comp "Civic Si M2"

Tf. Manual trans does not make the M2 a base model.

You don’t need to hold out of magazine reviews to already predict the verdict.

M2C is literally the same body and setup as a M2 except they now have more power - car review junkies like this as it also correlates to getting around the track faster. There’s now more standard options that they can talk about - instead of “lacking this this and this...” they can now say “it has the proper and long desired this this and this”. They’ll talk about the extended menu of M performance goodies which some are transferable to the M2.

You’re going to be disappointed if you believe there’s anything negative new on the M2C that the current M2 doesn’t have. You can expect any negativity still present on the M2 - otherwise, the M2C is more refined and fixed issues the M2 exposed.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it is that way in the M2 section of the forum because many people are bashing the car....many of these people don't even currently own an M2.

It's like people literally forgot about all the rave reviews the car received. Not to mention the reason the competition is around is because of the success of the first one.

I own one and I'm happy with it. If you find yourself in the market it sorta comes down to what you're looking for and what you want to spend.....remember this is a limited time offer. One won't be able to get into an M2 ay a heavy discount for awhile.

Everyone can call it a civic M2, I don't mind.

Just remember where your "civic type R" came from

Chris Harris is going in with a bias.

He raved about the M2, never stopped talking about his signal green F80 M3.

The whole Civic thing started on the M3/M4 forum when the Comp pack launched. It isn't taken as an attack or derogatory over there, like some M2 owners take it here. Just a quick name to describe the car you are talking about.
