When it's raining put it in sport for safety

I've found that sport is the safest mode in the rain (I have 19s with Pirelli P Zero and MPPSK). Comfort mode is too inconsistent and the throttle tends to surge after the initial dead zone. This can cause loss of traction. The sport mode mapping is more linear and quicker throttle response but not enough to overwhelm the tires so you can keep up with fast drivers and still have confidence you won't lose it and have to rely on traction control that slows you way down. Sport + on LCI causes loss of traction off the line unless you're on dry tarmac then it's awesome.

I'm pretty much always in comfort mode unless i'm on the highway, then i switch to sport mode for quicker passing. I haven't had any traction issues in midwest downpours with the stock runflats. Even in comfort mode on the highway i can pass without issue, just quicker in sport mode.

Hate this non-linear throttle in the first part of pedal travel. It's really the only thing I don't like about the car. It is definitely inconsistent, as it sometimes worse than other times.

Sucks that it still is apparently a thing in the 340i gen.

The tcs system is good enough. It's caught slips for me before I could even react when driving through storms or even ice on the highway. And it can brake individual wheels.. which a person can't do.

I recently found out that if tcs kicks in with the cruise on it gives you a polite warning message to dial it back lol

Can you shift from Eco to sports while the car is in motion?
Or should we stop, place in nutral or park first before changing modes?

I do it in motion.

I'm honestly not even sure what eco actually does compared to sport besides turn on start/stop. It does change my gauge cluster to how many miles I'm saving, which is cute.

Put the car in sport plus mode that way it will become wildly unpredictable in the wet. Life is too short for predictability.

when it's raining people over here immediately smash their car into a wall and cause bumper to bumper traffic

It dulls the throttle even more, if you have an automatic transmission it shifts even earlier, and it has the cruise feature where it'll roll in neutral for a period of time if it feels like it'll save more fuel than staying in gear.

It’s crap, I used eco twice just to see how much miles I can get. After a few blocks of driving I was so miserable... put it back in sport after that and don’t care for the mpg test anymore.

+1.

At the BMW Performance Driving School to make the "Rat Race" on a wet track "interesting" (came in 2nd out of 16 drivers) they require that you run the course's 8 laps timed event in Sport+.

As a demo of the "normal" system you run a few laps in Comfort. Trust me in the wet the fast, quick, safe way around is in Comfort.

Came in second because I over drove the drift on last turn on the last lap & gave away the win which the chief instructor thanked me for on behalf of the event winner.. Lost by a side reflector. DUMB, DUMB.
