BMW cars found to contain more than a dozen flaws
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-44224794
There's a statement in there saying: "Its customers have been advised to keep an eye out for software updates and other counter-measures from the German company over the coming months." Roughly translated means "We'll keep quiet and hope it blows over".

It's not really news and pretty much all cars are vulnerable to various forms of electronic attacks.
The fact that is no encryption on the canbus, most data access points are not secure. http://opengarages.org/handbook/ Full book on Pen Testing. http://opengarages.org/handbook/ebook/ The car industry realise they need to do something but it would mean a change in architecture (Canbus encryption and other systems secured) The simple fact that you can plug a 3rd party piece of software in to a car and change manufacturers code settings means the car is not secure. |
