xi vs. i (u kno u wanna post)
It's always a question, especially in the northeast..was wondering what everybody's take was on AWD vs. RWD. The winter's haven't been so bad the past few years and if it made that much big of a difference to have xi or an i with snow tires. I know that of course the xi is best in bad weather and i is the best fun for every other day, but what would you say..and why?! C'mon this is a fun post..no hating on anyone, just opinions! And no ..it's a new post haha. Plus people have different opinions at different times..maybe stuck in snow?! POST POST POST!!! So again, which do you like better, what do you have, and why do you like xi or i or in general AWD vs. RWD, but don't IN GENERAL too much, try to stick with bmw..we know evo's n sti's enough.

Get i, get snow tires, and have best of both worlds. My 328i is a beast in the snow, I went down my unplowed driveway in 6-7 inches of snow without a problem(driveway is over 600ft long lol), and I know will never encounter anything worse than that on the roads. Also keep in mind that awd will help you get going, but braking will still suck without proper tires.

Theres a reason they dont make the M3 in xi version. Conclusions at your own risk.

not according to umpteen threads on this forum.
screeeeeeeee-CRASH! RWD is simply wrong in the snow, block treads or not. If you have to have 2WD, get FWD for winter driving. This isn't news, guys. Why it's so hard for people on this forum to comprehend, I'll never know. I watch it every year like clockwork, and I'll never understand why people insist on driving the worst possible platform for winter driving in the snow, then end up sideways on a hill, backwards o nthe wrong side of the road, or spun out into the median. I prefer to stay on the road, and drive with confidence and safety. Whatever floats your boat though. |

That's right. AWD helps with getting going, avoiding an obstacle, climbing hills, descending hills, slowing down (downshifting on 4 > downshifting on 2), getting over a snow drift or out of your driveway, control on ice, and pulling out of a slide / regaining control.
Straight brake-stopping would be the the same (rubber and condition permitting). |
